The wait was worth it: Bosch eBike Systems launches first hub motor

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – For modern city dwellers, the eBike is more than just a means of transportation – it's an expression of a conscious and flexible lifestyle. For all those who want to get around the city quickly and in style, Bosch eBike Systems is now launching a range of groundbreaking new products. At its heart is the Hub Line: a lightweight, agile and almost invisible hub motor that was developed specifically for the requirements of urban eBikes. In combination with the new, compact PowerTube 360 battery, it enables particularly slim, lightweight and stylish eBikes. The urban product range is rounded off by the next generation of the Bosch ConnectModule for smart theft protection, the compact LED Controller for intuitive operation and the minimalist Intuvia 200 display. With our new features related to the Hub Line, we are ushering in a new era of urban eBikes. They are not only light and agile and excite with a clear and modern design language, but also revolutionize the riding experience in the city. At the same time, we are making connected eBiking accessible to even more people. eBike riders benefit from all the advantages of our smart system: from the usual Bosch quality and durability to intuitive digital services and reliable support – all from a single source and engineered in Germany....Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems Hub Line: Clean style, smart power For all those who want to organize their everyday urban life with style and ease, Bosch eBike Systems is breaking new ground with the Hub Line. While the company was previously known for its powerful mid-drive motors, the Hub Line heralds a new era for elegant urban bikes as the first hub motor in the smart system. Developed specifically for urban dynamics, its 45 Nm of torque immediately provides noticeably lively yet sensitive support. Thanks to a smart sensor function, this always remains precisely controllable and ensures agile riding behavior, taking the effort out of situations such as starting off at traffic lights or moderate inclines. The motor is completely decoupled at speeds above 25 km/h, allowing the eBike to be ridden like a conventional bike with virtually no pedal resistance. This feeling of lightness and agility is additionally underscored by the motor's low weight of only approx. 5.1 lbs. The eBike is easy to carry and remains pleasantly maneuverable in city traffic. At the same time, the compact design supports the minimalist aspirations: with a diameter of only around 3.9 inches, the motor blends discreetly into the hub and becomes an almost invisible part of the clean overall design thanks to its black aluminum housing. As an integral part of the smart system, the Hub Line is fully connected. With the eBike Flow app, the smartphone becomes an intuitive control center for intelligent functions such as theft protection, navigation and personalization. Regular over-the-air updates ensure that the eBike is always up to date. For those who want to glide even more comfortably through traffic, the Hub Line can also be combined with the eShift electronic gear shifting solution. eBike riders can choose between manual or automatic gear shifting and benefit from efficient gear shifting operations at exactly the right moment. PowerTube 360: Energy in its slimmest form In keeping with the clean design of the Hub Line, Bosch presents the slimmest battery in the smart system to date with the PowerTube 360. Its slim profile of just 2.7 inches in diameter enables such inconspicuous frame integration that eBike models can hardly be distinguished from a conventional bike at first glance – the perfect basis for minimalist, urban eBike designs. But it's not just the design that's impressive: the battery's low weight of just approx. 4.6 lbs optimizes the eBike's center of gravity, making it more responsive and dynamic. With 360 Wh, the battery provides reliable energy for daily urban use and ranges of over 50 miles¹. The DualBattery system can easily be extended for longer distances, for example, with the PowerMore 250 Range Extender. Depending on the manufacturer's design, the PowerTube 360 is either removable or permanently installed in the frame. Bosch ConnectModule: Intelligent protection for greater peace of mind Whether for a quick stop at your favorite café or parking in the yard for a longer time – thanks to the Bosch ConnectModule, eBike riders can remain relaxed even when they don't have their eBike in sight. Equipped with GPS, cellular and motion sensors, it forms the basis for advanced digital theft protection functions such as eBike Alarm. The new module generation brings two decisive innovations: It now also uses Bluetooth® Low Energy technology, which enables precise tracking to within a few yards. This means that an eBike can even be found in places where classic GPS trackers reach their limits, such as in basements or backyards. In addition, the module can now be retrofitted more easily to compatible eBikes using a flexible mounting. The extended features are part of the Flow+ paid subscription service. LED Controller: maximum control, minimal design With the new LED Controller , Bosch presents the successor to the LED Remote. Thanks to its design, the new control unit is around 65% smaller than its predecessor, creating a tidy, minimalist look on the handlebar. The focus here is on ergonomics: all five buttons are optimally positioned within the thumb radius and provide noticeable and audible feedback. This allows eBike riders to change the support mode, activate the walk assistance or operate the lights safely without taking their eyes off the road. The LEDs clearly display information such as the riding mode and battery level, while a sensor automatically adjusts their brightness to the ambient light – for optimum readability day and night. A practical USB-C connection with up to ten watts of charging power 2 also enables external devices to be charged. Intuvia 200: Focus through clarity The Intuvia 200 is more than just a display – it's a design statement. Its sleek, minimalist look blends seamlessly into the aesthetics of any eBike and emphasizes the clean look. The 2.4-inch grayscale display provides a razor-sharp image and ensures excellent readability in any weather and from any perspective. This allows eBike riders to concentrate fully on the flow during the ride and enjoy the urban experience. The future of urban eBiking starts now Perfectly coordinated and digitally connected: Hub Line, PowerTube 360, ConnectModule, LED Controller and Intuvia 200 together define a new generation of urban eBikes. They impress with their combination of intuitive riding experience, minimalist design and smart additional functions. This makes the eBike an integral part of modern city life: whether on the way to work, for a spontaneous outing to visit friends or for a quick ride through the city. 1 Calculation basis: City eBike with Hub Line, PowerTube 360, range in Eco mode approx. 55 miles. This value may vary depending on use and conditions. 2 The USB-C charging function for the LED Controller depends on the drive unit. Further information is available from dealers.

Everyday life and recreation in perfect balance: New features for City eBikes wi ...

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – Confident in the city, relaxed in their free time: Many eBike riders use their eBike for running errands in the city, commuting to work, and going for leisurely weekend rides. For the perfect balance between everyday life and recreation on an eBike, Bosch eBike Systems is making its portfolio of City eBikes even more powerful. The new generation of the Active Line Plus provides more powerful support and is also smaller and lighter. Also new are the Intuvia 200 display and the next generation of the Bosch ConnectModule with improved functions. Bosch is also adding a new battery to the smart system: The PowerTube 720 enables eBike rides of up to 115 miles.Active Line Plus: Natural support for the city Always stay in the flow, navigate through traffic effortlessly, and negotiate ascents with ease: The Active Line Plus has been the tried-and-tested drive unit for City eBikes since 2017. Now the new generation provides even more powerful support. Up to 60 Nm of torque, 600 watts of power, and 340 percent support ensure agile acceleration in the city – allowing riders to master all routes with confidence and ease. In addition, the power of the new drive unit is delivered in a smooth and controlled manner at all times: Thanks to its improved response behavior, the Active Line Plus remains sensitive and responds precisely. Riders can also use the customizable riding modes to adapt it precisely to their personal needs. For added comfort, the new Active Line Plus is compatible with the eShift electric gear shifting solution. If desired, the system automatically takes over the gear shifting operation and always ensures the best gear ratio – ideal for dynamic city traffic or relaxed rides in the countryside. For additional safety and control, the Active Line Plus is compatible with eBikes that have a backpedal brake. The new generation of the Active Line Plus weighs only around 6 lbs and has become even more compact thanks to a new two-stage gearbox. This makes it around 1 lb lighter, reducing the total weight of the eBike and making it even easier to handle in the city. The 17% smaller volume also allows for more discreet integration into modern eBike designs. The new drive unit comes with an optimized sealing and bearing concept that makes it a reliable companion for riders in all weather. During development, Bosch takes care to use materials responsibly. Around 40% recycled aluminum in the housing cuts almost half of the CO₂ emissions compared to conventional aluminum. Recycled materials are also used for plastic components. Intuvia 200: Focus through clarity Simple, intuitive, focused: The new Intuvia 200 display shows riders all important information at a glance. With its excellent readability, modern design, and individual setting options, it turns everyday rides into experiences. The large font and clear design ensure that all riding information can be understood at a glance – even in full sun or at twilight. This is because the 2.4-inch grayscale display automatically adjusts its brightness up to 1,000 nits and thus adapts to changing conditions. High contrasts, deep black values, and good viewing angle stability ensure excellent readability in any weather and from almost any perspective. It is controlled with a separate control unit 1 , allowing both hands to stay on the handlebars. For a carefree riding experience, the Intuvia 200 is permanently mounted on the handlebars – making removal, stowing, or the risk of scratches when stored in a backpack a thing of the past. With its stylish design, the new one-piece housing integrates seamlessly into the look of streamlined eBikes. High-quality workmanship and the full-surface connection of the display glass and LCD panel also make it robust and resistant to dirt and rain. Riders can configure the exact ride data shown on the display themselves: They can select their favorite information in the display settings, e.g., heart rate, elevation, or current smartphone charge level. As part of the smart system, the Intuvia 200 also displays additional information depending on the eBike's equipment – such as the active ABS mode or the gear currently engaged for electric gear shifting. LED Controller: Compact, versatile, advanced With the successor to the LED Remote, Bosch is setting new standards in terms of ergonomics and design. The new LED Controller is around 65% smaller than its predecessor, creating an uncluttered, minimalist look on the handlebars. All important functions can be operated safely with the thumb using five buttons with tactile and audible feedback. The LED indicators adapt to the ambient light and always show clearly legible information such as the riding mode or battery level. A practical USB-C port with up to ten watts of charging power 2 also enables external devices to be charged. Precise tracking with the new Bosch ConnectModule For even more effective theft protection, Bosch eBike Systems is expanding the functions of the Bosch ConnectModule to include precise tracking using Bluetooth® Low Energy technology (BLE). This means that the new generation module can locate a stolen eBike to within a few yards. It can even be found in places where a pure GPS signal reaches its limits – such as in basements or backyards. The Bosch ConnectModule forms the technical basis for digital theft protection in the smart system. Through the interaction between GPS, cellular, and motion sensors, it connects the eBike to the internet, maintaining a connection via the eBike Flow app no matter where the eBike or its owner is located. In the event of suspicious activity of the parked eBike, the system can trigger an alarm and send a notification. The tracking function in conjunction with the ConnectModule is part of the optional subscription service Flow+. Reliable range for long rides: PowerTube 720 Simply set off and forget about the battery level: For spontaneous weekend excursions, Bosch is expanding the smart system with the PowerTube 720 . The powerful new battery weighs only around 8.6 lbs and has an energy density of approx. 185 Wh/kg (84 Wh/lb). Depending on the mode and conditions, rides up to 115 miles are possible. 3 The compact, short construction allows for deeper integration into the frame. This lowers the center of gravity of the entire eBike and ensures more stable handling and a better sense of balance – for example when riding with heavy saddle bags. Depending on the manufacturer, the PowerTube 720 is either permanently installed or can be removed. It is integrated either horizontally or vertically in the eBike frame. The PowerTube 720 is also flexible in combination with the smart system: Because it has the same length and mount, it is interchangeable with the PowerTube 800, PowerTube 600, PowerTube 540, and PowerTube 360, provided the eBike manufacturer has designed the frame for this. The PowerMore 250 Range Extender can also be used for even more range. The PowerTube 720 is additionally protected with the Battery Lock digital function: In the event of theft, the battery is deactivated, making it useless to thieves. This means riders can relax and enjoy their breaks on every ride. 1 Intuvia 200 is compatible with the LED Controller, the LED Remote, and the System Controller with Mini Remote. 2 The USB-C charging function for the LED Controller depends on the drive unit. Further information is available from dealers. 3 Basis of calculation: Touring eBikes with Performance Line PX, PowerTube 720, range in Eco mode. The values may vary depending on use and conditions.

Peace of mind when buying pre-owned eBikes: Certified by Bosch creates trust in ...

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – Pre-owned or refurbished eBikes are becoming an increasingly attractive option for many people. 1 However, potential buyers are often unsure about the condition of pre-owned models and therefore want more transparency for peace of mind when making a purchase decision. With Certified by Bosch, Bosch eBike Systems is the first manufacturer of eBike drive systems to create a digital certification for the pre-owned market. The certificate digitally displays the condition of the battery and drive unit of the smart system, shows important information about the model and confirms that the eBike has not been reported as stolen in the eBike Flow app. From July 2026, refurbishment specialist Rebike will be the first partner to certify all eBikes with a Bosch system and issue them with the Certified by Bosch certificate. From the beginning of 2027, Bosch will also use the certificate to support specialist bicycle retailers in the sale of pre-owned models.“Our products are designed to a high quality and for a long service life, making them ideally suited for a second life in the pre-owned market. This market is important: it makes eBikes accessible to more people and contributes to sustainable mobility. With Certified by Bosch, together with Rebike as our first refurbishment partner, we are establishing a transparent and professional offering that provides buyers and sellers alike with a high level of trust,” says Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems. Certified by Bosch: clarity about battery, drive unit and system condition Anyone buying a pre-owned eBike is faced with a challenge: it is difficult to realiably assess the condition of the battery and drive unit from the outside or compared with other offerings. At the same time, these components significantly determine the value and thus the purchase price. This is precisely where Certified by Bosch provides clarity: the digital certificate for the smart system records the condition of the battery and drive unit at the time of certification and displays it in an intuitive star-based rating display, with a higher number of stars reflecting a better condition. 2 For the battery, information such as the number of charge cycles and the remaining capacity in percent can be displayed. For the drive unit, values such as the distance already travelled and the power used so far are included in the rating. The certificate also shows important model information such as brand, model year and frame number and confirms that the eBike has not been reported as stolen in the eBike Flow app and that there are no indications of tuning. By comparing the serial numbers of the battery and drive unit with the serial numbers displayed in Certified by Bosch, it is possible to ensure that the certificate actually belongs to the eBike being sold. To better protect eBikers against fraud, authenticity can also be easily checked using a QR code. Widespread availability: Rebike to become the first partner from July 2026 Rebike is the first partner to rely on Certified by Bosch: refurbished eBikes with the Bosch certificate will initially be available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands from July 2026. The certified models will be available in the Rebike online shop, in the company's own stores, on partner marketplaces and in selected shop-in-shop areas at Decathlon. Belgium, Spain, Italy and other European markets are also set to follow. “Our customers appreciate the security we offer as a professional provider when buying a refurbished eBike. In addition to our own services, such as our TÜV-certified Premium Refurbishment Programme and the two-year Rebike warranty on the motor and battery, with Certified by Bosch we are creating even more transparency about the condition of our models with the Bosch system. Together, we are strengthening confidence in refurbished eBikes and making the pre-owned market as a whole even more attractive,” says Sven Erger, COO and co-founder of Rebike. From 2027, Bosch eBike Systems will also be using the Bosch certificate to support specialist dealers in Europe with their pre-owned eBike sales. Digitally certified eBikes will be available at more contact points and the transparent second-hand market will continue to grow. Buying pre-owned eBikes: an environmentally conscious choice Buying a pre-owned eBike with a Bosch system is a conscious decision for the environment. Compared to the new production of a similar model, CO₂ and CO₂ equivalents savings of up to 208 kg can be achieved. 3 This corresponds to around 80% of the emissions of a new eBike. The reason: no new materials are required and no new components are manufactured. 3 Buying second-hand conserves valuable resources and saves money. With Certified by Bosch, eBikers don't have to compromise on safety and transparency when buying a pre-owned bike. 1 Source: ZIV market data 2025 , last accessed on 15/04/2026. 2 The following information is displayed: certification information (certificate creator, creation date, certificate ID, overall star rating), eBike information (model, brand, model year, total distance and frame number), registration (confirmation that the eBike is not marked as stolen in the eBike Flow app. If the eBike is marked as stolen, a Bosch certificate will not be issued. The theft status is checked solely on the basis of the messages in the eBike Flow app. A comparison with police search databases or other external registers does not take place); information on whether components are locked and registered, the drive unit (product name, product code, serial number, supported distance, tuning detection (no certificate is issued in the case of tuning), star rating, potentially logged faults), the battery (product name, product code, serial number, number of charge cycles, remaining capacity in percent, star rating, potentially logged faults), the system and services (software status, star rating, potentially logged system faults); the star rating is based on Bosch's own evaluation criteria. 3 Bosch eBike Systems has considered the effects of CO₂ as well as other greenhouse gases and climate-relevant substances, insofar as these are relevant to the analysis. For ease of reading, Bosch eBike Systems uses CO₂ synonymously with CO₂ equivalents. The basis for calculating the carbon footprint of an eBike is a Trekking eBike with a Performance Line CX, PowerTube 500 and Kiox 300 and a mileage of 11,000 km. The remaining 20% is made up of transport, packaging, recycling and use. The calculation was carried out by TÜV Rheinland (as of April 2024).

New features for the smart system and new SmartphoneGrip Vertical

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – A jump over a root, a short wheelie out of a corner: many eMountain bikers want to show what they can do while on the trails and work specifically on their riding technique. With the latest update for the eBike Flow app, your own skills can now be measured. At the heart of Release 1.34 is the "Trick Check" function, which eBikers can use to measure and analyse their performance on the trail. The update also includes the integration of heart rate data into the ride statistics, a practical favourites function for route planning, and expansion of the eShift portfolio. In addition to the update, Bosch eBike Systems is also expanding the range of display options in the smart system: the new SmartphoneGrip Vertical transforms smartphones into a display in portrait view."Trick Check": measure, analyse – and improve – your own skills on the trail The new "Trick Check" function is the ideal solution for eMountain bikers wanting some action and to take their tricks to the next level. Making every trail a playground: no matter whether jumps, wheelies, manuals or stoppies – "Trick Check" recognises every trick automatically. Information such as the duration, height, distance or angle of the trick is recorded by the sensor system and confirmed by means of an audible signal. The trick is also clearly shown on the display for eight seconds. Once the ride is over, eBikers can view and analyse their personal best performance from within the eBike Flow app. "Trick Check" is compatible with selected drive units and displays in the smart system. 1 Heart rate in the statistics: analyse your training in detail Sporty, ambitious eBikers can now analyse their performance even more precisely. While it was already possible to connect a heart rate monitor to the eBike via Bluetooth and track the data live on the display 2 , this data will now also be saved in the eBike Flow app. After the ride, the average heart rate and detailed heart rate progression can be viewed in the statistics. This allows riders to precisely analyse the workload and helps them to make their training more effective. Save favourites: plan and start your routes even quicker The new update from Bosch eBike Systems also simplifies everyday route planning. In the eBike Flow app, eBikers can now save several locations as favourites, such as their home or workplace, via a new button on the map in the "Planning" menu item. Three of these favourites can be added as navigation shortcuts and selected directly via the Quick Menu on the ride screen or on the Kiox 300, Kiox 400C and Kiox 500 displays while out on your next ride. Making it even easier to start navigation. See destinations at a glance: use your smartphone as an eBike display in portrait view Complementing the digital functions, the SmartphoneGrip Vertical enhances the new features in the smart system. Transforming the smartphone 3 into an eBike display in portrait view. During the ride, the smartphone charges inductively or via USB-C via the eBike battery – allowing for reliable use of even battery-intensive applications. The Bosch eBike Flow app's ride screen shows you all the important data during the ride – from speed and battery level to the arrival time. While navigating, eBikers can also see a much larger area of the route in portrait view and therefore ride with more foresight. Two clamps ensure a reliable grip even on cobblestones or gravel paths, while a rubber coating protects the phone. All buttons and ports remain freely accessible. The SmartphoneGrip Vertical can be easily retrofitted and is compatible with the display mount for Kiox 300, Kiox 500 and the SmartphoneGrip. It can be flexibly mounted in front of, on or next to the stem, and the angle can be adjusted to suit you. Smoother gear changes: eShift integration from Gearsensor Bosch eBike Systems is also expanding its portfolio of integrated gear shifting solutions: eShift now also supports mechanical hub gear and derailleur systems equipped with the GS gear shifting solution for manual gear shifting from Gearsensor – ideal for Urban, City and Trekking eBikes. The motor support is briefly interrupted while you are shifting gear. The result is a noticeably smoother and more comfortable gear change, which ensures the ride continues uninterrupted and can also reduce the wear on components. If required, the display can give eBikers a shift recommendation – for relaxed riding without having to overthink things. 1 The "Trick Check" function works with the Performance Line CX (BDU384Y), Performance Line CX-R (BDU384Y), Performance Line CX Race (BDU374Y), Performance Line CX (BDU374Y) and Performance Line SX (BDU314Y) and on the following displays: Kiox 300, Kiox 400C, Kiox 500, Purion 200, Purion 400. Services for connected eBike mobility: Bosch presents the Connected Biking Platform

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – Modern eBike mobility is seamlessly integrated into people’s everyday digital lives. This gives rise to new opportunities for companies from the bike, mobility and service world: the development of attractive digital offers for their customers, optimised processes and innovative business models. With the Connected Biking Platform, Bosch eBike Systems now offers a digital basis for the development of new eBike services and provides with standardised interfaces and expertise. Our Connected Biking Platform is becoming a central component of the digital ecosystem around the eBike. We are creating opportunities for industry players to develop their own digital offerings. The first partners are already connected and are shaping connected eBike mobility together with us....Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems From connectivity to new possibilities The connected eBike is at the centre of the new platform. The system continuously records important information such as status, configuration, use and service data via the Bosch ConnectModule. This creates a level of knowledge about the entire life cycle of the eBike, from delivery to operation and remarketing. For secure integration, Bosch eBike Systems provides a modular toolbox of standardised interfaces and digital modules. For example, partners can use this information for their own applications via Cloud APIs for the ConnectModule and the eBike Flow app. Added value for the bike industry: development, service and new offers These insights into the complete life cycle of an eBike open up new ways for the entire bike industry to simplify processes and continuously enhance the riding experience for end customers. New models can be specifically adapted to real use profiles, maintenance and support are strengthened with efficient service, and app providers can develop innovative digital offerings. eBike manufacturers receive valuable insights into the actual use of their connected models based on the comprehensive information base. Knowledge about stock levels, functions used or the system status helps in developing future models and equipment in a more targeted manner. Operational processes can also be simplified: test fleets can be managed efficiently and transport to retailers can be secured with the tracking option. In addition, eBike manufacturers can develop their own apps or subscription services and place their own branded content directly in the eBike Flow app via “Content Cards”. Specialist dealers benefit from the option of being able to organise their own rental or test fleets even better on this basis. The overview of the location and availability of each eBike makes management much more efficient and also increases theft protection. App and service providers can connect their services to the eBike Flow app via the Connected Biking Platform and therefore reach a large, active eBike community. Once integrated, the interface enables seamless exchange between the two platforms. This creates a consistent experience for shared users and a valuable basis for the further development of our own services. Partners such as komoot are already connected here. New potential for fleet operators, leasing providers and insurance companies The Connected Biking Platform also opens up new options for professional mobility service providers: fleet operators can manage their eBikes more efficiently and minimise breakdowns, leasing providers can transparently track the value retention of their models, and insurance companies can minimise damage risks. The result is more reliable sharing services, transparent leasing conditions and comprehensible insurance rates. Fleet operators receive real-time information on the location, state of charge and use of each individual eBike. In the event of theft, the eBike can be located and the motor support disabled. Partners such as Papin and Tilia already have these options: for example, they can plan and control use, service and charging processes centrally. This enables proactive maintenance, reduces downtime and simplifies operation across many wheels. The fleet therefore remains reliably available. Mobility platforms can offer a complete solution with dashboards and booking apps for fleet and rental management with a clear competitive advantage. The advantage is a single, standardised interface for all eBikes with the smart system from Bosch. Partners such as allride (AMAG Group), Connected Cycle , Friiway , Joyride , OKGO and Velo de Ville are already using the Connected Biking Platform to help fleet and hire providers manage their eBikes or support dealers in selling eBikes through subscription models – without them having to invest in their own solutions. Leasing providers can transparently track the condition and service history of each eBike over the entire contract term. This ensures value retention, facilitates the technical appraisal during return and makes the evaluation of returns faster and more objective – the ideal basis for profitable remarketing. Leasing partners can also offer additional digital services by integrating them into the eBike Flow app. This creates a seamless experience for customers: they benefit from digital theft protection and can view their contract data directly in the eBike Flow app. Leasing providers are therefore given the opportunity to optimise customer lifecycle management and initiate follow-up leasing. Insurance companies benefit from alarm and GPS tracking functions that can help prevent theft and recover stolen bikes more quickly. A digital theft report also bundles all relevant data on the eBike and the incident. This enables significantly faster, partially automated claims processing and helps to calculate risks or rates accurately in future, based on real information. The Connected Biking Platform as the digital backbone of the eBike industry A reliable and secure technical basis is needed so that the variety of digital services for eBikers in the sector can continue to grow. The protection of personal data and information security are also a top priority for Bosch eBike Systems when working with its partners and are an integral part of the company’s principles. Modern encryption technologies and a system architecture are used to ensure that each eBike is individually protected. In addition, all data processed by Bosch eBike Systems is stored on European servers in accordance with strict European data protection law. Over-the-air updates also make it possible to keep security up to date at all times. The protection and conscious control of personal data by the user are at the centre of this. With the Connected Biking Platform, Bosch eBike Systems is creating a digital backbone that sets new standards. This offers partners countless options for shaping digital mobility. The Connected Biking Platform forms the basis for an ecosystem that grows with you. It is already providing compelling offers from the first partners, and simultaneously forming the foundation for tomorrow. “With the extensive components of our Connected Biking Platform, we are creating a real win-win situation: customers and partners can implement ideas easily, quickly and reliably, and therefore create a wide range of digital offers from which the constantly growing community of eBikers can benefit. The future of eBiking is happening now,” says Gregor Dasbach, Head of Digital Business at Bosch eBike Systems. Further information on the possibilities of the Connected Biking Platform can be found here.

More power, more Uphill Flow: Performance Line CX is increasing in strength

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – Conquer technical trail sections, tackle steep ascents with ease, and constantly test your own limits. For passionate MTB riders, Bosch eBike Systems is adding another dimension to the trail experience. From July 2025, eMTB enthusiasts can increase the performance values of the Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) in the eBike Flow app and customize them to their personal setup. In the new eMTB+ mode, this power is delivered with sensitive precision exactly when the rider needs it. The Kiox 400C display, the highly sensitive sensor technology for eBike ABS and eBike ABS Pro, and a customized eShift setting complete the new features in the Bosch eMTB ecosystem.More power for the Performance Line CX – individually adjustable The Performance Line CX is becoming even more powerful and adaptable. eBike riders can individually increase the performance of their drive unit via a software update in the eBike Flow app. A slider can be used to adjust the maximum power from the default value of 600 watts (W) up to 750 W, while the maximum torque can be increased from 85 Newton meters (Nm) to 100 Nm and the maximum support up to 400%. This gives eMTB riders a noticeable increase in power for particularly steep and technical uphill trails. The amount of power actually utilized is left up to the rider within the framework predefined by Bosch. It is important to bear in mind that higher values put more strain on the mechanical components and also affect the range – the more power, the greater the wear and the shorter the ride. The performance upgrade for the Performance Line CX can be downloaded free of charge over-the-air to eBikes with the current Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) after manufacturer approval for the respective eBike model from July. Bicycle manufacturers set the maximum values within which users can adjust their performance values. Maximum dynamics and control: The new eMTB+ mode The newly developed eMTB+ mode, which bridges the gap between Race and eMTB mode, offers greater dynamics and control. Depending on the rider's input, eMTB+ mode adapts support with up to 400% of rider power. Extended Boost can be controlled as sensitively as in eMTB mode and can develop the same maximum overrun as in Race mode – which is only available in conjunction with the Performance Line CX-R. Dynamic Control ensures full control of the power delivery. On demanding trails with changing surfaces and tire grip, the sensor technology recognizes the conditions and ensures a balanced and smooth power delivery. This keeps riders in the flow and the riding behavior of the drive unit confident, dynamic, and fully controllable. While eMTB mode in the basic setting is optimized for touring and a longer range, eMTB+ mode scores points for performance and trail fun. Riders who want to customize eMTB and eMTB+ mode according to their personal preferences can fine tune the various performance values in the eBike Flow app. eMTB riding is part of our DNA. We enable eMTB riders to live out their passion to the full – with optional additional power and even more customization options for different riding situations and needs. The increased performance values of the Performance Line CX in combination with the new eMTB+ mode offer even more power and agility on demanding trail rides....Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems “eMTB riding is part of our DNA,” says Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems. “We enable eMTB riders to live out their passion to the full – with optional additional power and even more customization options for different riding situations and needs. The increased performance values of the Performance Line CX in combination with the new eMTB+ mode offer even more power and agility on demanding trail rides.” Protected in the frame, all ride data at a glance: Kiox 400C display Power, cadence, heart rate, elevation, and more: eBike riders want to be able to view the most important ride data live on challenging rides. The new Kiox 400C displays these values dynamically without manual intervention during the ride – and is a display and control unit in one. It is permanently and seamlessly integrated into the top tube of the eBike. This protects it from mud, knocks, and bumps while keeping the cockpit tidy. The dynamic screen for the Kiox 400C is preset so that riders can keep their hands on the handlebars at all times. The displayed data changes automatically in this setting – depending on the riding situation. For example, the elevation covered is displayed when riding uphill, and the speed when riding downhill. The various screens can be customized in the display configuration of the eBike Flow app. The tactile buttons also allow the display to be operated manually. In addition, the Mini Remote ensures safe and convenient operation directly from the handlebars – including control of lights, Walk Assist, and the Hill Start feature. With up to 1,000 cd/m², the razor-sharp display shows information and automatically adjusts to the surrounding brightness, remaining easy to read and glare free even in direct sunlight. In addition, the navigation display enables precise route guidance so that eBike riders can easily find their way from trail to trail. Another clever feature is the protected USB-C charging socket on the Kiox 400C, which can be used to power external devices such as smartphones. Even better control when braking: Optimized Bosch eBike ABS and Bosch eBike ABS Pro High riding stability on the trail and powerful braking without the front wheel skidding: Bosch eBike ABS and Bosch eBike ABS Pro allow eMTB riders to fully focus on the riding line. They can focus better on the trail, ride more precisely, and concentrate less on braking. The ABS software has been further optimized to regulate the brake pressure even more precisely. A new sensor in the drive unit also measures the inclination of the eBike more accurately, allowing the eBike ABS to calculate more precisely when a crash over the bars could be imminent. In this way, Bosch eBike ABS can further reduce the braking distance. The new integrated sensor also enables a cleaner design without a sensor disk on the rear wheel. Focus when riding, composure when coasting: M+ with eShift A situation many eMTB riders will be familiar with: When they start pedaling again after coasting for a while, the last gear engaged is no longer suitable for a smooth start – either it is too hard or they feel a lack of resistance. M+ extends eShift from Bosch eBike Systems to include the “auto-shift” variant. When coasting, M+ automatically shifts to the right gear with eShift. This keeps the rider fully focused on the trail – allowing them to really push themselves on next pedaling section. On uphills and while pedaling, eMTB riders with M+ stay in control and shift gears manually. eShift ensures an optimum gear on the downhill when the rider isn't even thinking about it. M+ will be available from fall 2025 in combination with TRP E.A.S.I. A12 as part of an over-the-air update.

We have made no compromises when it comes to materials, software, and sensor technology – enabling experienced riders to explore and push the limits of their skills on difficult trails. The new eMTB+ riding mode brings the power of the CX-R to the trail in a controlled manner. Thanks to Dynamic Control – a type of traction control in the new mode – propulsion remains controlled even on demanding terrain, steep sections, and wet surfaces.” Uncompromising support: Exclusive Race mode On challenging terrain, power is not the only thing that counts – a sensitive interplay of performance and control is crucial. Since riders have different requirements, there is a choice of specially customizable riding modes. Riders who want direct power delivery and maximum support can select the Race mode available exclusively with Performance Line CX-R. It enables lag-free acceleration and assists with full power up to maximum speed – with up to 400% in addition to rider power. When dynamically negotiating large rocks and complex tree roots, Extended Boost, which is further extended in Race mode, provides additional thrust. This makes it the first choice for competitions and for eMTB riders who want to constantly challenge themselves and master a variety of technical riding challenges. Riders wishing to adapt the mode to their personal preferences can customize the various performance parameters in the eBike Flow app. Full dynamics and control: New eMTB+ mode for demanding trails The dynamic and progressive eMTB+ mode is another key innovation for physically demanding trail rides. It bridges the gap between eMTB mode and Race mode and balances the full power of the latter with unique control. Based on the rider's input, eMTB+ mode delivers controlled support with up to 400% assistance in addition to the rider's own power. It develops its power in a natural and agile manner, and thanks to Dynamic Control it can always be precisely regulated via the rider's input. eMTB+ mode switches intelligently – depending on the situation – between Dynamic Control and the familiar, direct response. Just like in Race mode, the performance values of eMTB+ mode can also be fine tuned in the eBike Flow app to precisely suit the rider's needs and riding situations. For ambitious MTB riders, four fine tuned, dynamic riding modes are now available: Tour+, eMTB, eMTB+, and Race. These can be customized via the eBike Flow app – both in terms of performance values (W, Nm) and dynamics and response. Premium materials: Low weight and dynamic riding experience Whether on steep uphill trails, sprints over complex tree roots, or rough terrain, the materials of the Performance Line CX-R are designed for maximum performance and durability to get the most out of every riding situation. The powder coated magnesium housing in space gray adds durability, while the corrosion-resistant titanium crank spindle and high quality ceramic ball bearings reduce the weight to just 6 pounds – and ensure even smoother operation. At the same time, the Performance Line CX-R is durable and reliable thanks to its high quality construction and powerful electronics. When riding downhill, the decoupling of the external drivetrain (chain, chainring, cassette) from the internal drivetrain (freewheel, gear system, motor) ensures reduced mechanical noise so that the full focus remains on the trails and nature. High quality sensor technology: Power at exactly the right moment To ensure that the Performance Line CX-R delivers power precisely in the right riding situations, sensor technology measures the pedal input up to a thousand times per second. The sensor technology used includes precise torque measurement technology and a high resolution cadence sensor. Inertial sensors (IMU) also measure acceleration and rotation speeds in six dimensions, and recognize inclination and tilt angles as well as vibrations. On the trail, this means maximum power, precisely controllable and available at exactly the right moment – whether it's a powerful sprint out of a curve, a fine tuned start on a slippery surface, or steep, technically demanding ascents. The first electric mountain bikes with the new Performance Line CX-R are expected to be available from dealers from fall 2025.

Power meets Control: Bosch again sets new eMountain biking standards with its ne ...

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – More dynamic on the mountain, more agility on the trail, smoother riding on tour: In the new Performance Line CX generation from Bosch eBike Systems, power meets control and a success story lives on. In conjunction with the Bosch eBike ABS Pro, the Purion 400 display, the powerful PowerTube batteries and new features for long tours and steep passages, Bosch presents a comprehensive sporty ecosystem for the ultimate eMountain bike experience. With 85 Newton metres of torque, a maximum power of 600 watts and up to 340 percent support, the new Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) delivers the ideal balance of power, dynamics, efficiency and range. Whether for sensitive starts on steep trails or powerful, perfectly controlled exits from bends: With its precise, sensitive response behaviour, our new drive unit allows sporty eBikers to experience unique riding dynamics for the perfect eMTB experience....Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems The ideal balance of power, efficiency and range For eMountain bikers, it is not just performance data that is crucial, but above all the precise fine-tuning of the motor. This determines the flow factor on the trail. “With 85 Newton metres of torque, a maximum power of 600 watts and up to 340 percent support, the new Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) delivers the ideal balance of power, dynamics, efficiency and range," says Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems. “Whether for sensitive starts on steep trails or powerful, perfectly controlled exits from bends: With its precise, sensitive response behaviour, our new drive unit allows sporty eBikers to experience unique riding dynamics for the perfect eMTB experience.” A variety of different riding modes are available for Performance Line CX, which can be selected and customised in the eBike Flow app . Sensitive sensor technology and dynamics on a new level The power of the new Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) unfolds dynamically and is precisely matched to the relevant riding manoeuvre and accurately follows the pedal input. This is made possible by re-engineered sensor technology. Several high-performance sensors precisely measure the pedal input – more than 1,000 times per second. The many sensors used include a high-resolution cadence sensor and precise torque measurement technology. Inertial sensors (IMU) also measure acceleration and rotation speeds in six dimensions, and recognise inclination and tilt angles as well as vibrations. This means that the eMTB “knows” how steep the ascent is and whether eBikers are on a forest path or a root-covered trail. The drive unit responds highly sensitively to changes in acceleration, the rider’s pedal power and the current speed. Thanks to the newly interpreted sensor signals, eBikers always receive the right motor power – sensitive, controlled and immediate. Or gentle, restrained and reliable for long tours and leisurely excursions. The Performance Line CX is an all-rounder. The sound of the trail and nothing else On trails and discovery tours, many cyclists want a motor that is as quiet as possible, combined with a natural riding experience. Bosch has optimised the gearbox of the new Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) with a view to achieving a good balance between power delivery, efficiency and noise levels. When riding downhill, the external drivetrain (chain, chainring, cassette) is decoupled from the internal drivetrain (freewheel, gearbox, motor). This further reduces the mechanical noise generated by comparable drive units on the trail. The full focus remains on the trail and nature. The weight of the Performance Line CX has also been reduced by around 100 grams compared to the previous version. The drive unit is extremely robust. Its magnesium housing withstands the toughest conditions. A black powder coating protects against stone chips and damage as well as corrosion. The motor that defined eMountain biking: Performance Line CX If there is one eBike motor that is synonymous with eMountain biking, it’s the Bosch Performance Line CX. Specially developed for eMTBs, it has established itself as a permanent fixture in the mountain bike scene since its launch almost ten years ago (2015) and has defined sporty eBiking as a field in its own right. Since then, the drive unit has undergone several stages of evolution and continues to set standards in terms of riding experience and motor characteristics. The pioneering, progressive/dynamic eMTB mode and many other technical developments complement the Performance Line CX, making the riding experience on the eMountain bike unique. Full support right up to the summit: useful features for steep passages If eBikers have to stop on challenging uphill terrain, it is important to get out of this situation in a controlled manner. With the new hill start assist you can ride off in relaxed manner and with full traction. Thanks to the sensors, the eMTB knows how steep the slope is and provides optimum support. Also new: With the walk assistance feature, the drive unit adapts the pushing speed to the walking speed. Maximum braking performance: the new Bosch eBike ABS Pro On the downhill trail, demanding mountain bikers want to focus more on their riding line and less on braking. Bosch eBike Systems now has a solution for them: the new Bosch eBike ABS Pro for high-performance braking systems. This increases riding stability by allowing late and powerful braking without the front wheel slipping. During development, Bosch incorporated experience and technology from eMTB racing. This has resulted in two ABS Pro modes: ABS Trail Pro for discerning mountain bikers and ABS Race for enduro racers. The new eBike ABS Pro achieves the optimum balance between riding stability and maximum braking performance. Perfect eMTB display: the new Purion 400 display The new Purion 400 display is part of the sporty ecosystem and complements the Performance Line CX. With a minimalist look adapted for eMTBs and optimally protected in the handlebar triangle, the transmissive 1.6-inch display offers a good overview of the essential riding and fitness data such as speed, range, power and total distance. Battery innovations for even longer tours: PowerTube 600 and 800 Energy reserves play a decisive role on demanding, multi-day tours covering many metres of elevation gain. For this purpose, Bosch has developed the PowerTube 800 – the largest PowerTube battery in the smart system to date, perfectly matched to the new Performance Line CX. At around 205 Wh/kg, the battery has the highest energy density in the portfolio. The portfolio is complemented by the new PowerTube 600 . Bosch uses battery cells with an optimised energy density and a newly developed aluminium housing for both batteries. Seamlessly integrated into the frame tube, they blend seamlessly into the eBike design. Thanks to their identical length, they can be easily removed and replaced – if provided for by the eBike manufacturer. They are also DualBattery-capable and can be combined. eMTB enthusiasts, for example, can use two PowerTube 800s to achieve a total capacity of 1,600 Wh in order to master even the most challenging route sections with many metres of elevation gain and no possibility of intermediate charging. Alternatively, you can use the drinking bottle-sized range extender PowerMore 250 as an additional battery. Focus on sustainability in production Bosch aims to continuously improve all eBike systems in terms of sustainability throughout the entire product life cycle. For the production of the Performance Line CX and of the two PowerTube 600 and PowerTube 800 batteries, Bosch eBike Systems therefore uses partially recycled materials: for the first time in the largest plastic part of the drive unit as well as in the battery holder and the battery housing1. Furthermore, the amount of material used for the rechargeable batteries has been reduced2 and the black colour coating has been omitted from the PowerTube 600 and PowerTube 800. A further milestone: In pilot projects, Bosch eBike Systems is focussing on purchasing components that were produced using electricity from renewable sources. This applies to the aluminium of the PowerTube 600 and the PowerTube 800 as well as to the housing of the Performance Line CX. More than the sum of its parts: the eMTB ecosystem from Bosch The Performance Line CX takes centre stage – and around it, Bosch eBike Systems presents a sporty portfolio that takes the eMountain biking experience to a new level: powerful batteries for long ranges, a lightweight range extender, a compact display, eBike ABS Pro and the eBike Flow app. With the eShift solution featuring TRP presented in July 2024, eMountain bikers will also benefit from the first automatic derailleur in the smart system. And Bosch is also involved beyond the trail Bosch eBike Systems: As one of several well-known stakeholders in the electric bike industry, Bosch is supporting the collaboration in the Charge2Bike consortium to develop an industry-wide, standardised charging solution. "The fascination of eMountain biking is a holistic experience," says Claus Fleischer. "And we are also pursuing this approach in our product development. With our comprehensive sporty ecosystem, we offer eMountain bikers more dynamics, more control, more riding pleasure – and therefore more 'trail' – through the interplay of all components." Claus Fleischer believes that the advantages of this holistic approach will change the market: “We are convinced that in 5 years’ time, eBikes with ABS, eShift, the eBike Flow app and an infrastructure with Charge2Bike as standard will be available for hire."1 Primary plastics and metals were used for previous drive units and batteries. Recycled material is now specifically used in the grease guide plate of the drive unit, in the protective cap of the battery mount system and in the battery housing. By providing the grease reserve, the grease guide plate makes a significant contribution to the efficiency level and service life of the drive unit and was produced for the first time with a plastic that consists of approximately 50 % recycled material. We use recycled polypropylene for the protective cap of the battery mount system, while we use aluminium, consisting of approximately 38% recycled material, for the battery housing. 2 The reduction is achieved by reducing the wall thickness of the housing. This produces the following result: when comparing PowerTube 600 with PowerTube 625, the housing wall is 26% lighter, and 37% lighter when comparing PowerTube 800 with PowerTube 750.

Maximum braking performance with the Bosch eBike ABS Pro

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – On the downhill trail, discerning mountain bikers and enduro racers want to concentrate more on their riding line and less on braking. Bosch eBike Systems now has a solution for them: the new ABS Pro for high-performance braking systems. This increases riding stability by allowing late and powerful braking without the front wheel slipping. We have received feedback from our athletes that they are simply faster with ABS Race. They feel safer and perform better and can gain crucial time on the downhill. Added value for discerning bikers who want to push themselves to the limit on the trail....Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems The control system optimised for performance downhill sections intervenes within milliseconds and allows the brake to react even more precisely to different surfaces. At the same time, the brake pressure modulation has been optimised to achieve even better braking performance that is both powerful and natural on gravel roads or trails, even at higher speeds. The advantages for eMountain bike enthusiasts: the 'flow window' is extended, they can focus better on the trail, ride more precisely and have to concentrate less on braking. And for enduro and downhill riders, this also means less stress for the body in a race and therefore more performance and longer-lasting concentration. Stable and tuned for performance Fast, performance downhill riding requires a braking technique that ranges from solid to sophisticated. With modern, powerful braking systems, overbraking can also occur, especially in unforeseen situations. Those who adopt a precise braking style not only master descents more safely, but also reach their destination more quickly. This is where the eBike ABS Pro comes into play, which is aimed at experienced mountain bikers who want to expand their skill set. The ABS optimised for performance on the trail intervenes particularly in the first braking phase to minimise braking errors. During initial braking, ABS Pro ensures stability, after which the intervention decreases noticeably – in favour of maximum braking performance. In this way, riders are ramped up to the maximum braking force on the respective surface. The length of the initial braking depends on the rider's input and the grip level, i.e. the degree of grip of the tyre. ABS Pro refines sophisticated braking technology and ensures that bikers stay in the flow on trail descents. Two ABS modes for different requirements When developing the new ABS Pro for maximum braking performance on trails, Bosch incorporated experience and technology from eMTB racing. This has resulted in two ABS Pro modes: ABS Trail Pro for discerning mountain bikers and ABS Race for enduro racers. The ABS Trail Pro mode is the new standard for every challenging trail descent and has been developed for more efficient, stable and controlled braking on loose surfaces. eMountain bikers can fully focus on the ideal line and also benefit from the rear wheel lift control on grippy surfaces. This can prevent the rear wheel from unintentionally lifting off sharply in the event of extremely heavy overbraking. For eMTB professionals and braking specialists, the range of functions in the ABS Race mode has been deliberately adapted: all stoppie fans and hairpin bend enthusiasts can use this mode to lift the rear wheel off the ground and land it again, as the lift control is deactivated. "We have received feedback from our athletes that they are simply faster with ABS Race. They feel safer and perform better and can gain crucial time on the downhill. Added value for discerning bikers who want to push themselves to the limit on the trail," says Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems. Bosch athletes have already won world championship titles and several enduro victories in competition with ABS Race. For eMTB world champion Nathalie Schneitter, the ABS Race mode on the eMountain bike is a real game changer: "With ABS Race, I am more controlled on the descent and can brake later and harder without losing grip and my pace. This allows me to focus perfectly and hold my line." The two modes ABS Trail Pro and ABS Race can be selected via the eBike Flow app or the Settings menu on the display. Improve braking behaviour in the performance area The Kiox 300, Kiox 500, Purion 200 and Purion 400* displays show the selected ABS mode as well as information such as braking distance and duration and the number of braking operations using ABS. After the descent, you can analyse your own braking behaviour in the eBike Flow app and compare the proportion of braking with and without ABS Pro. The Bosch eBike ABS Pro is compatible with the MT7 disc brakes from Magura and DH-R EVO from TRP, cannot be retrofitted and is only available for eBikes with a smart system. The first eBikes with the new ABS Pro are expected to be available from specialist dealers from the end of 2024. Systematic differentiation of the Bosch eBike ABS The new Bosch eBike ABS Pro with the ABS Trail Pro and ABS Race modes creates the optimum balance between riding stability and maximum braking performance. Presented in 2022, the world's smallest Bosch eBike ABS with ABS Allroad and ABS Trail modes was deliberately developed with a stronger focus on safety and stability. Also in 2022 – particularly suitable for urban areas – Bosch presented the ABS Touring and ABS Cargo modes for eCity, eTrekking and eCargo bikes, for example. In 2018, Bosch eBike Systems introduced the world's first ABS for eBikes. *Braking distance and duration not currently available with Purion 400.

10 years of Uphill Flow

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – Ten years ago, an idea was born that revolutionised mountain biking and changed the entire bicycle industry: Uphill Flow. The term is deeply rooted in the DNA of Bosch eBike Systems and both inspires and drives the company's product development. Uphill Flow stands for the fascination of exploring the technical possibilities of riding uphill, playing with physics and having fun with the eMTB uphill too....Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems "Uphill Flow stands for the fascination of exploring the technical possibilities of riding uphill, playing with physics and having fun with the eMTB uphill too," says Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems. He coined the term in 2014 together with ex-trial professional Stefan Schlie. Out of curiosity, the two of them rode technical trails uphill together and quickly realised: "If only a fraction of mountain bikers think it's as cool as we do, it could become something really big." Uphill Flow opens up new perspectives and possibilities for eMountain bikers, a new riding experience and adventures that go beyond conventional mountain biking. "The 'flow window' is outside your personal comfort zone, so that you are no longer bored, but put to the test. And it extends all the way to challenge sporting ambition, without getting to the point of overwhelm or stress. That's what makes it special, and everyone can feel it immediately. The eMountain bike enhances the flow experience." A milestone in biking: from the idea to the new MTB dimension What began as an idea after a day together on the trail has become a success story that has added a significant dimension to the sport of mountain biking: uphill. Uphill Flow has led to an evolution of mountain biking in which the overall experience takes centre stage and not just the descent. "Uphill Flow turned everything that wasn't fun without the 'e' from eMTB into an experience – steep climbs peppered with obstacles, sections laced with tree roots and steps," continued Fleischer. This made long rides in a group more sociable, as you can ride together and chat. And long alpine bike adventures became possible without a shuttle or lift. Fleischer and Schlie have shaped the MTB world with their vision and, with their curiosity, laid the foundation for numerous product developments, bike infrastructure projects in tourist regions and new competition formats. "Ten years ago, the eMTB was still completely unknown; something completely new that caused a lot of scepticism. But we were firmly convinced and launched the first drive specifically for eMountain bikes in 2015 with the Performance Line CX," explains Fleischer. As a result, the market picked up speed. Subsequently, more and more manufacturers adapted their designs and strategies, offered eMTBs in their portfolio and made the special riding experience accessible to more and more riders. The initial doubts gave way to fascination and took mountain biking to a new level. "The eMTB has changed the entire community," says Fleischer. "For performance mountain bikers and trail riders, they cannot imagine mountain biking without the 'e' from eMTB." Uphill Flow has also made its way into the event and racing sector: competitions such as the Bosch eMTB Challenge with stages in Germany, Italy and Switzerland inspire participants with special uphill stages and technical sections. The International Cycling Union (UCI) has added the E-MTB Cross-Country and E-Enduro World Cup to its race calendar. Uphill Flow as a driving force in development Uphill Flow has become the company philosophy at Bosch eBike Systems. "Innovation comes from inspiration and inspiration comes from curiosity," says Fleischer, explaining his credo. Being curious and mastering gravity: Fleischer and Schlie discovered Uphill Flow for themselves ten years ago with this attitude. Since then, it has been the incentive for Bosch eBike Systems to develop new products with eMountain bikers in mind. "The perfect motor must support you so organically, so smoothly and intuitively that you don't think about it on the trail," reveals Fleischer. "This is the only way to achieve the perfect Uphill Flow." Drive systems such as the Performance Line CX, Performance Line CX Race and Performance Line SX, the pioneering progressive-dynamic eMTB mode, the Extended Boost and many other technical developments from Bosch eBike Systems have been developed with the aim of enabling this special riding experience on the trail. What began as a vision in 2014 has become synonymous with a riding experience that has positively shaped, expanded and changed the mountain bike world and the entire bicycle industry through innovations.

10 years of Connected Biking at Bosch eBike Systems

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – Over the past decade, eBiking has become an integral part of mobility. In some European countries such as Germany and the Netherlands, every second bike sold is already an eBike – and the trend is upwards. Since its introduction, the eBike has undergone numerous stages of development – and has evolved into a fully connected product over the past ten years.Ten years ago, Bosch eBike Systems laid the foundations for the dawn of the eBike future. Since 2014, Connected Biking has stood for the further development of eBiking with a continuous stream of new features and complements the physical experience with the world of digital life. With Nyon, Bosch launched the first connected, all-in-one on-board computer in the bicycle industry onto the market. Together with an online portal and a phone app, it combined an eBike control unit, navigation system, fitness trainer and access to the online world in a single device. The next important step towards the digitalisation of eBikes soon followed. With the acquisition of COBI.Bike, Bosch eBike Systems expanded its product and expertise portfolio to include phone-based solutions for the first time in 2017. Further innovations such as the Kiox display (2019) and the first integration of an anti-theft protection feature (2019) soon followed. Smart system milestone: the eBike Flow app as a digital assistant A particularly important milestone in this development and the start of a new, connected eBiking future was the launch of the smart system in 2021. With this system generation from Bosch eBike Systems, all components – such as the drive unit, battery, display and phone – are fully connected, can communicate with one another and exchange data. Since then, eBike riders have been offered an intuitive and convenient eBike experience with a wealth of new options. The centrepiece is the eBike Flow app, which is trusted by more than one million eBikers worldwide, with an average app store rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars. It enables access to additional digital functions, personal settings, analysis and display of riding data, navigation, updates and much more. The eBike makes everyday life and leisure activities easier. Bosch is continuously improving the smart system with ongoing updates and new functions in the four areas of theft protection, navigation, personalisation and update & service. Additional theft protection: parking the eBike with complete confidence Whether a quick stop at a café or an extended break on a sporty tour: anyone parking their eBike for a brief or lengthy period of time wants to do so with peace of mind. The digital theft protection functions of the smart system offer additional security and are the ideal complement to the mechanical lock. Thanks to the “eBike Lock”, the phone or display becomes a digital key that prevents the motor support from being enabled. The “eBike Alarm” function shows the current location and status of the eBike. In the event of attempted theft, the eBike emits an audible and visual alarm and sends a notification to the phone. If the eBike nevertheless does get stolen, automatic tracking starts – including location tracing for the police. To explore means to experience: next-generation navigation features So that every kilometre becomes an experience, the smart system offers route planning, navigation and activity tracking via the Flow app. Tours can be planned with maximum freedom and efficiency before setting off. The AI-based “Range Control” feature helps out here. When eBikers put together a route in the eBike Flow app, it immediately shows them what percentage of battery power is likely to remain when they reach their destination. To rule out every last worry about range during the journey, it’s even possible to set the desired minimum battery level at destination and the smart system takes care of the rest. Other AI-based functions recognise user behaviour, learn from previous journeys and can offer customised routes with a precisely calculated arrival time. Routes planned in advance with komoot can also be automatically imported. During the ride, clear display of the route and precise turn-by-turn directions ensure a modern navigation experience – whether using a display, phone on the handlebar or via voice-based navigation. If desired, all important data such as speed, battery level, elevation graph or (in conjunction with a heart rate monitor), the current heart rate can be viewed at all times. Thanks to Activity Tracking, all tour and performance data is recorded – synchronised with Strava or Apple Health if desired – and can be analysed, exported as a GPX file or in FIT format and shared with the user’s community after the ride. Personalisation: adapting the eBike to individual preferences Whether City eBike, Trekking eBike or eMTB: eBikes are as diverse as the requirements of eBikers are varied. The topic of personalisation is therefore becoming increasingly important. The eBike is increasingly adapting to individual lifestyles – fully in keeping the with personal use habits. Thanks to the connectivity of the individual components, the eBike can be customised to the rider’s needs via the eBike Flow app. The display screen layout, for example, can be customised with over 30 different options and shows the information relevant to the current riding situation and route. The riding modes can also be customised to suit personal preferences: dynamic on the trail, energy-saving on tour or relaxed in city traffic. Update and service: the eBike always keeps up with the times With updates , improvements and new features are continuously being introduced in the smart system. This means that the eBike remains up to date and always feels like new. Here again, a great deal has changed in the ten years since the beginnings of Connected Biking. Whereas the specialist dealer used to install the latest version, updates simply take place over-the-air via the eBike Flow app. Particularly clever: the eBike Flow app also serves as a digital service booklet. Outlook: connected eBikes will be the standard in the future The future of the eBike will be characterised by additional digital functions and even more customisation options that can be installed via software updates. Non-connected eBikes will be the exception in the future – the topic of Connected Biking will therefore continue to play a central role for Bosch eBikes Systems in the coming years. In addition to greater flexibility and extra functions, eBike connectivity is also playing a decisive role on the road to the mobility of tomorrow. It forms the basis for networked communication between eBikes and the relevant infrastructure, such as bicycle traffic lights or other road users and providers of smart services, as is being discussed by science, industry and politics in the Smart City context of the Bike2X concept.
