Bosch Home Comfort Group: Stable in a difficult market environment

Las Vegas, USA, Wetzlar, Germany – In a difficult market environment characterized by declining demand in North America and continued uncertainty in Europe, the Bosch Home Comfort Group made significant strategic progress in 2025. The company strengthened its leading position in the global HVAC market and gained significant market share in the European heat pump and air conditioning segments. According to preliminary figures, the Bosch Home Comfort Group held sales steady at around 4.4 billion euros (excluding the newly acquired units) and is making a significant contribution to the profitability of the Bosch Group. In nominal terms, sales grew by 0.3 percent compared to the previous year, and by around three percent adjusted for exchange rate effects. 2025 was a challenging year for the global HVAC industry. We held our ground in a tough market and were able to grow our market share in Europe’s heat pump and air conditioning segments,...says Jan Brockmann, CEO of the Bosch Home Comfort Group. The integration of the residential and light commercial HVAC business from Johnson Controls and Hitachi was completed on schedule in January 2026 and is already showing initial synergy effects, for example in the product portfolio and logistics. “With the smooth completion of the integration in January 2026, we have taken a groundbreaking step and assumed a leading global market position. We owe this in particular to the outstanding work of our associates,” says Brockmann. To support future growth, the Bosch Home Comfort Group invested a total of around 200 million euros in 2025, with about half going to its existing business and half to newly acquired operations. The investments were made across all regions: in the Americas, they focused primarily on the supply chain and expanding production capacity. In Asia, the company invested in additional testing and laboratory capacity, while in Europe it pushed ahead with electrification projects at its sites in Aveiro, Portugal, and Eibelshausen, Germany. As of December 31, 2025, the Bosch Home Comfort Group employed around 24,000 people worldwide. Growth in heat pumps despite challenging market environment The global HVAC market grew by around one percent in 2025, showing a mixed picture: While the Asia-Pacific region recorded slight market growth, EMEA was at the previous year’s level, and the North and Latin American market declined compared to 2024. This decline was significantly influenced by the United States, where private demand fell, particularly in the air conditioning sub-segment, due to cautious consumer behavior and regulatory effects such as the introduction of tariffs. Adding to an already downward trend in 2024, the German heating market dropped again, with boilers hit especially hard. The overall market shrank by 14 percent year over year to its weakest level since the 2008 financial crisis and is now at the bottom in Europe in per-capita heating system sales. In contrast, demand for heat pumps rose significantly by 47 percent and recovered from the slump in 2024. As a result, more heat pumps than gas heating systems were sold on the German market for the first time. In Europe, around 20 percent of newly installed heat generators are now heat pumps, an increase of three percentage points compared to the previous year. “We are staying the course with the electrification of the building stock despite headwinds. We now need regulatory clarity to reduce consumer uncertainty and restore confidence and security for long-term investment decisions,” explains Brockmann. Gradual market recovery forecast from 2026 For 2026, the Bosch Home Comfort Group anticipates a gradual market recovery and a reduction in barriers in the global HVAC market, provided that external influences do not intensify further. Market momentum could then increase from 2027, particularly in North America. According to current estimates, replacements and modernizations in particular will contribute to growth. “The trend toward electrification, statutory efficiency requirements, as well as positive consumer sentiment will result in a global market upturn in the medium term,” explains Brockmann. “We want to grow in the upper single-digit percentage range per year, that is faster than the market” is the company’s ambitious growth target, according to Brockmann. Integration of the new units successfully completed Following completion of the acquisition, the Bosch Home Comfort Group is now in a phase of strategic development. The major expansion of development and production capacity – increasing the number of plants from 17 to 33 and development sites from 14 to 26 – along with the expansion of the international sales network, significantly strengthens the Bosch Home Comfort Group’s global position. New technology platforms, especially in the field of air conditioning solutions, provide strong support for targeted global growth. Synergy effects already made it possible to achieve short-term savings in 2025 “Our new positioning brings us closer to our customers in all regions of the world – technologically and strategically. We want to use our regional positioning to develop and offer tailored solutions,” says Jan Brockmann. North and Latin America region: Acquisition of US Air Conditioning In October 2025, the Bosch Home Comfort Group completed another acquisition in the North American market: the takeover of US Air Conditioning Distributors, LLC. The factory direct sales model of the company with 52 locations and almost 500 employees in California, Arizona, Utah, and Idaho provides the Bosch Home Comfort Group with direct customer access. YORK® products are delivered directly to general contractors. Through this acquisition, the Bosch Home Comfort Group has gained an additional sales channel and will benefit from one of the largest company-owned sales networks for heating and air conditioning systems in the western states of the USA. The Bosch Home Comfort Group expects annual market growth of over 5 percent for air conditioning solutions in the region by 2027. To tap into this potential, the brands will more actively pursue cross-selling opportunities going forward. The Bosch brand now, for example, also offers rooftop units (RTUs) from YORK®, giving its customers access to a broader product portfolio in the future. “With the Bosch, Hitachi, and YORK® brands, we have a strong portfolio in the market and can offer solutions for every application in the residential sector as well as for small and medium-sized commercial customers,” explains David Budzinski, Deputy President of the Executive Management of the Bosch Home Comfort Group with regional responsibility for North and Latin America. EMEA region: Bosch Home Comfort Group as a full-service provider In the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, the acquisition strengthened the Bosch Home Comfort Group’s air conditioning business in particular. In Europe, the Group holds a leading position in the heat pump sector, particularly due to significant market share gains in Germany. This further positions the Bosch Home Comfort Group even more strongly as a full-service HVAC provider with significant growth expectations: For the EMEA region, the Group expects annual growth in air conditioning solutions of around six percent over the next two years. “Our expanded portfolio enables us to take a true system approach – from heating and cooling to hybrid solutions,” explains Maria Zesch, who assumed responsibility for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region on the Executive Management of the Bosch Home Comfort Group on January 1, 2026. With a view to Europe, the Bosch Home Comfort Group is planning to make mutual use of existing sales channels and cross-selling in order to significantly increase its market penetration. APAC region: Expansion of development expertise In the Asia-Pacific region (APAC), the Bosch Home Comfort Group is focusing on e.g. the Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Southeast Asian markets. Ductless air conditioning solutions for residential and small commercial buildings, in particular, offer significant growth potential – both within the region itself and in various international markets. That is why regional development expertise for this technology is being pooled, and development and testing capacity in Wuxi, China, and Kadi, India is being significantly expanded. “The Asia-Pacific region is an innovation and growth driver for the Bosch Home Comfort Group, and its strategic importance for our global business is constantly increasing,” explains Ulrich Lissmann, who is responsible for the Asia-Pacific region. AHR Expo: The Bosch Home Comfort Group presents its expanded portfolio The Bosch Home Comfort Group will present its expanded portfolio for the first time at AHR Expo from February 2 to 4 in Las Vegas, in the Central Hall at booth C4007. Product highlights will include: the Bosch IDS Edge heat pump, which uses inverter technology to continuously adapt output to the heating requirement, Hitachi’s new air365 Max heat pump, which uses the refrigerant R-32, and SunChoice from York®, an energy-efficient hybrid solution that combines an air conditioning system with a gas-fired rooftop unit.

Bosch Home Comfort Group is looking confidently to the future despite difficult ...

Wetzlar / Frankfurt – In a difficult global market environment characterized by persisting macroeconomic and geopolitical challenges, the Bosch Home Comfort Group was unable to isolate itself from the weak economy but managed to defend its leading position in the industrial sector. At approx. 4.4 billion euros, sales in the financial year 2024 were down by 12.5 percent on the previous year nominally and by 11.8 percent in exchange rate adjusted terms. It was primarily the reduced consumption and consumer spending, both for heat pumps and other heat generators, that led to the subdued sentiment in the European heating market and had a negative impact on business. In the North America region, by contrast, the Bosch Home Comfort Group was able to grow its sales by a nominal six percent compared to the previous year. Increasing by 11 percent – and thus above the market average – US sales of air conditioners made an important contribution to this growth. Sales in Africa also picked up by nine percent, essentially in the water heater segment. The industrial boiler segment defied the general negative market trend, clearly growing its international sales by just under 11 percent compared to the previous year. At 256 million euros, the Bosch Home Comfort Group maintained its spending on research and development at the high level of the previous year in 2024. The company employed 13,800 associates as of December 31, 2024. Emerging well from turbulent times thanks to stronger market position Demand for heating technology in Europe declined noticeably in 2024, namely by 34 percent for heat pumps and by 14 percent for boilers. The Bosch Home Comfort Group’s position in the heat pump market nevertheless improved noticeably in Germany and Europe. “Our customers are particularly open to heat pump technology, and we support them with our comprehensive range of training courses,” said Jan Brockmann, CEO of the Bosch Home Comfort Group. The Bosch Home Comfort Group also strengthened its position in air conditioners in Europe and North America. ”Despite the current global economic climate and the volatile subsidy situation, this broad positioning makes us optimistic about the future. We will emerge stronger from the weak market phase, also thanks to the outstanding performance of our associates. At an international level, we are cautiously optimistic about the year 2025 as a whole. The European market for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning is unlikely to start recovering slowly before 2026,” Brockmann added. Planned acquisition a consistent strategic milestone Announced in July 2024, the planned 8 billion US dollar acquisition of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning business of Johnson Controls and Hitachi is the largest acquisition in the history of Bosch and an important step on the way towards becoming a global player for the home of the future. The transaction comprises 16 production facilities and 12 development sites employing some 12,000 associates in over 30 countries worldwide. The product portfolio covers the full range of heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions for residential and small commercial buildings and includes well-known brands such as York or Coleman in the USA and Hitachi in Asia and Europe, for which Bosch will be granted a long-term license. “We act from a position of strength and are establishing a global presence with the planned acquisition. This enables us to offer efficient and innovative heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions worldwide and push forward the full spectrum of electrification,” Brockmann explained. With the planned acquisition, the Bosch Home Comfort Group wants to expand its presence in growth markets such as the USA and Asia and assume a leading market position in the promising heating, ventilation and air conditioning market. “We are also gaining strength in Western and Southern Europe, complementing our existing leading position in North and Central Europe. We will almost double our sales in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning market to about nine billion euros and thus accelerate our growth. The preparations for the closing, which is scheduled for mid-2025, are in full swing and entirely on track. We look forward to working with our future colleagues and to the new opportunities that will arise for all of us,” said Brockmann. High investments in the future viability of the sites Bosch expects the global market for heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions relevant to the company to grow by around 40 percent by 2030. This growth will be driven by technological progress, the fight against climate change and new regulations. “Heat pumps and hybrid heat pump systems remain our key to achieving the climate goals in the building sector. That´s why we will stick to our plans to invest over one billion euros in our European development and production network for heat pumps by 2030,” said Brockmann. The future viability of the sites is of decisive importance here. For example, at the Eibelshausen site in Central Hesse, the center of excellence for heat pump indoor units and storage tanks, the portfolio and product design as well as processes and infrastructure are to be optimized with a focus on increased competitiveness. In Aveiro, Portugal, the Bosch Home Comfort Group is expanding its production space for propane-based heat pumps as well as the resources for research and development. The Wernau site near Stuttgart places the investment focus on flexibility and scalability with two new assembly lines with low cycle times and a high degree of automation as well as the fully automated handling of load carriers. Strengthening the technologies of the future: heat pumps and air conditioning The motto of this year’s exhibit of the Bosch Home Comfort Group at the ISH trade fair in Frankfurt is “Local heroes for global change” – a dedicated commitment to combining global innovations with the inestimable value of local expertise. The Bosch Home Comfort Group will make the results of its extensive research and development activities visible at the ISH fair, where Bosch and Buderus, the international brands of the Bosch Home Comfort Group, will present numerous innovations. The hybrid heat pump systems, which will be presented for the very first time, can be operated as stand-alone gas or oil condensing boilers or in combination with a heat pump outdoor unit. Conversion to all-electric operation is also possible. This provides homeowners with a future-proof heating system that can be flexibly adapted to new conditions and requirements at any time. The new innovative brine-to-water heat pumps for single and two-family homes provide flow temperatures of up to 80 degrees Celsius and utilize the natural refrigerant propane (R290). A new propane-based air conditioner that can be integrated into a wide range of smart home systems thanks to compatibility with Matter – the cross-manufacturer connection standard for smart home devices with the aim of simplification and standardization – will also be on display at the trade fair. For apartment buildings and commercial facilities, a new condensing boiler with a dual-fuel burner can be operated with 100 percent hydrogen if required. For heat networks and industrial applications, a new electric boiler generates up to 5.5 megawatts of heat fully electrically, making it suitable for the utilization of surplus green electricity, for instance. Bosch Industrial Heat at ISH

Bosch Industrial Heat is presenting electrical solutions for sustainable heating and process heat at this year’s ISH in Frankfurt. One highlight is the new ELHB electric boiler for heating energy and hot water. "Electrification is a relevant factor for the success of the energy transition in the heating sector. With our new ELHB electric boiler, we are driving the transformation forward and offering municipalities and cities an opportunity to future-proof their district heating," says Daniel Gosse, Head of Marketing at Bosch Industrial Heat, adding: "The ELHB also enables building operators and industrial companies to organise their heat production sustainably."Electrification of heating and process heat: The new ELHB electric boiler Bosch will be showcasing the new ELHB electric boiler live at the Buderus joint stand C60 in hall 12. "The ELHB is a versatile power-to-heat solution that can be used flexibly in existing infrastructures and also in combination with energy systems such as heat pumps," emphasises Daniel Gosse. The electric boiler generates heating energy and hot water in the output range from 250 to 5,500 kilowatts at up to 16 bar. The increasing expansion of renewable energies makes the ELHB an attractive solution: The ELHB can utilise surplus green electricity for example from wind power and photovoltaics and convert it into climate-neutral heat with efficiencies of up to 99.6 per cent. Its output adapts precisely to both individual heating requirements and available surplus electricity. The high demand for the Bosch ELSB electric steam boiler also shows that the need for electrical solutions is growing rapidly. Bosch offers the ELSB in capacities from 350 to 7,500 kilograms of steam per hour and also exhibits it at the trade fair stand. Companies from various industries and countries operate the electric steam generator, including PepsiCo in Poland and the Stríbro dairy in the Czech Republic. Both companies use the ELSB to generate a large proportion of their steam demand purely electrically. The ELSB is combined with a gas-fired UL-S steam boiler, which offers further flexibility for the future thanks to its conversion options for alternative fuels. Those multivalent systems make it possible to integrate several energy sources into an overall system and prioritise the use of self-generated electricity or electricity based on dynamic electricity tariffs. Solutions for green hydrogen and biofuels In addition to electrification, Bosch Industrial Heat is driving forward the use of alternative fuels such as green hydrogen and biofuels: Mature technologies from Bosch can utilise up to 100 per cent of these green fuels or offer a combination of several fuels in one system. Hydrogen boilers by Bosch have been in use in chemical companies, for example, for many years. H2-ready systems, which can be retrofitted in a future-proof manner when hydrogen becomes available at a later date, are another example. There are also plants with bio-oil boilers, including at the Norwegian district heating supplier Eidsiva Bioenergi AS. "With our pioneering solutions for sustainable heat and steam generation, we are the ideal partner for companies in heat supply as well as in industrial and commercial sectors worldwide. At ISH, our experts will provide prospective customers with advice on which technology makes sense based on their infrastructure, processes and individual requirements," emphasises Daniel Gosse.

Bosch Home Comfort Group achieves double-digit growth in 2023

Wetzlar – The Bosch Home Comfort Group achieved sales of 5 billion euros in fiscal 2023, representing nominal growth of 11 percent compared to the previous year, and currency-adjusted growth of around 14 percent. Growth was driven by heat pumps and hybrid heat pump systems: In Germany, sales of heat pumps increased by 84 percent, while sales of hybrid heat pump systems rose by 46 percent. Growth in both segments thus clearly exceeded the market growth of 51 and 12 percent, respectively. The Bosch Home Comfort Group also expanded its market position in efficient wall-hung condensing boilers that can later be complemented by a heat pump to form a hybrid system. “These figures underline the Bosch Home Comfort Group’s leading position in sustainable heating solutions and the growing importance of heat pump technology for the entire European market,” says Jan Brockmann, CEO of the Bosch Home Comfort Group. “Last year, we already operated in a volatile market environment. High interest rates and a weak rate of new construction are also influencing the heating market,” explains Brockmann. The European picture is mixed: While markets with clearly defined subsidy programmes such as the Netherlands have seen significant growth in heat pumps and hybrid heat pump systems, other markets have seen a decline. However, the Bosch Home Comfort Group expects demand to stabilise and growth to return to normal in the medium term. Compared to 2022, the company increased its research and development expenditure by 19 percent to 256 million euros. At around 14,600, the headcount was slightly higher than in the previous year. “We look back on a successful financial year, which was influenced by political decisions. One thing is for certain: without heat pumps and hybrid heat pump systems, it will not be possible to achieve a carbon-neutral building stock. That is why we will continue to pursue our electrification approach with great determination,” adds Brockmann. Subsidy conditions ensure an increase in demand in the medium term The Bosch Home Comfort Group expects the German market to get off to a slow start in the first half of 2024. The fact that subsidy conditions remained unclear for an extended period of time last year led to uncertainty among consumers and led to a decline in the number of applications for heat pump subsidies. “The subsidy conditions are now clear to consumers. We are cautiously optimistic that domestic demand for heat pumps and heat pump hybrids in Germany will increase again from mid-2024,” explains Jan Brockmann. In order to achieve climate neutrality in the German building sector, heat pumps and heat pump hybrids must be affordable for households in terms of purchase and operating costs. “We still believe that the Gebäudeenergiegesetz (Building Energy Act) should be expanded to include additional solution options such as ventilation systems with heat recovery,” adds Brockmann. “Regardless of this, now is a good time to take advantage of the attractive subsidy programme and opt for a heat pump or heat pump hybrid.” Bosch Home Comfort Group prepared for heat pump ramp-up With the full effect of the Building Energy Act from 2026 / 2028, the company forecasts a sustainable boost for electrification in the heating market. The Bosch Home Comfort Group is investing more than one billion euros in its European development and production network for heat pumps by 2030 to provide the necessary capacity. A major part of this investment, around 255 million euros, is to be spent on the construction of a new production site for heat pumps in Dobromierz in Lower Silesia by the end of 2027. 100 million euros will be invested in the expansion of the Aveiro site in Portugal by 2026. In Wernau, the company has set up a new laboratory with test benches for heat pumps, hybrid heat pump systems and ventilation systems. These strategic investments clearly reflect the Bosch Home Comfort Group’s commitment to the European market and underline its pioneering role in heat pump technology. “The Home Comfort Group has entered 2024 stronger than ever, with the aim of providing efficient and innovative heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions and driving the full range of electrification solutions around the world,” says Jan Brockmann. At the CES in Las Vegas, Bosch presented a new air-to-air heat pump for outdoor temperatures down to minus 25 degrees Celsius, specially designed for the cold regions of North America. The Bosch cold climate heat pump meets the requirements of the U.S. Department of Energy and will now move from laboratory to field testing. “Not all heat pumps are the same. We develop models that are perfectly adapted to regional conditions for maximum home comfort,” explains Stefan Thiel, Executive Vice President responsibility for sales in Central Europe and parts of Eastern Europe. Electrification in residential neighbourhoods and existing buildings In addition to heat pump solutions for new builds, the Bosch Home Comfort Group's electrification portfolio also includes innovative and energy-efficient solutions for residential neighbourhoods and existing buildings that are eligible for subsidies. For example carbon-neutral cold local heating networks, which are being set up in Germany and other countries, can make an important contribution to a carbon-neutral building stock. In the North Frisian municipality of Leck, the first phase of such a network is currently being built to supply 153 residential and commercial buildings, each of which is connected to a Bosch brine-to-water heat pump, with heat and hot water. A central collector field extracts heat from the ground, providing a particularly efficient energy supply for the neighbourhood. Starting 2024, the Buderus brand will offer hybrid heat pump systems that also enable existing older apartment buildings in urban neighbourhoods to meet the requirements of the German Buildings Energy Act. The heat pump takes on the main load of the supply and the supplementary condensing boiler is only switched on during peak demand. These hybrid systems can supply sustainable heat to neighbourhoods of up to 100 residential units. In 2024, the Bosch brand will launch the first air-to-air heat pump that can be used to heat and cool buildings. As it meets the requirements of the Federal Subsidy for Efficient Buildings (BEG), it is eligible for subsidies like any other Bosch heat pump. Well-Being portfolio significantly expanded The Bosch Home Comfort Group has significantly expanded its range of well-being products. From summer 2024, all air purifiers and mobile air conditioners will be controlled via the HomeCom Easy app, which is also used to control heat pumps. Modern energy management systems ensure an efficient and sustainable power supply for all consumers in the home. By distributing PV power intelligently and automatically, they can reduce electricity costs by up to 60 percent. New services for specialised companies accelerate the energy transition The Bosch Home Comfort Group and its brands are supporting heating contractors to make their daily work more efficient. Hands-on training courses teach heating contractors how to install heat pumps and hybrid heat pump systems efficiently and quickly. In 2023 alone, more than 20,000 installers were trained in electrification seminars. To support the next generation, the brands also offer further training programmes for teachers at vocational schools. According to the German Federal Statistical Office, the profession of HVAC system mechanic is one of the 10 most popular apprenticeships. The Buderus and Bosch brands offer a wide range of digital solutions, such as remote monitoring of heating systems, and various services to make the daily work of HVAC contractors more efficient and give them more time for their core business – installing heating systems. The Bosch brand’s new foundation service allows heating contractors to book the construction of foundations at the installation site of heat pump outdoor units as a service and to outsource this non-specialist activity. The Buderus brand is currently setting up a new PV installation service. which includes advice, planning of the individual photovoltaic system and preparation of the all-in offer including installation.

More time for the core business: Bosch offers HVAC professionals new dismantling ...

Heat pumps are the key to the energy transition. That is why Bosch Home Comfort is continuously investing not only in research and development, but also in expanding the production capacity for these heat generators. But it is not enough to ensure the supply of efficient and sustainable heating solutions. The energy transition also requires a strong HVAC trade, which is currently still facing a crucial challenge in the form of full order books and limited time. This is where Bosch comes in, providing services throughout the customer process to make the installer’s day easier and more efficient.“Klimahelden-Schmiede” for efficient business development At Bosch, communication is clearly at the centre of everything. The heating brand sees itself not only as a supplier of sustainable heating technology, but also as the first port of call for HVAC professionals, supporting them with its decades of experience and as an expert in the field of new technologies. Bosch offers heating contractors a comprehensive training programme that focuses on sustainable technologies, industry-related topics, and know-how on practical applications such as heat pump installation. The company thus creates a platform for the exchange and transfer of in-depth knowledge. Bosch training courses are available both online and at 14 locations in Germany. In addition, Bosch has worked with its trade partners to develop a comprehensive certification programme called "Klimahelden-Schmiede", which focuses on business development and goes far beyond traditional training formats in terms of content and form. It qualifies Bosch partners in areas such as work process optimisation, hands-on solutions, and tips and tricks on electrification and sustainability. After completing the programme, they will be able to install heat pumps more efficiently, more easily and more quickly. In addition to improved heat pump installation skills, HVAC contractors also benefit from the “Jungmeister” programme for young HVAC master tradespeople, which aims to address the shortage of skilled labour in the HVAC trade. Full-service package for HVAC professionals: Bosch provides spare parts for 15 years Bosch is also a competent partner for heating contractors in their day-to-day work: every day, around 350 service technicians, including 150 heat pump experts, are on hand in the Customer Service Department to advise and assist trade customers. Via the hotline, HVAC professionals can reach one of more than 40 competent advisors within 20 seconds and receive step-by-step instructions on the device as well as detailed information on many technical issues such as the supply of spare parts. The latter is guaranteed by Bosch: for a period of at least 15 years, trade customers will be supplied with spare parts for installation at the customer’s premises from one of the around 2,000 locations in Germany. Bosch guarantees delivery within 24 hours. In emergencies, the delivery time is reduced to four hours. But Bosch’s support is not limited to hardware. The Bosch Partner Portal gives HVAC professionals access to a wide range of activities, promotional material, the spare parts catalogue and other useful tools such as the heat pump planning tool and the online price list. These enable the right products and packages to be put together quickly, saving HVAC contractors valuable time when preparing quotations. To ensure that HVAC professionals can always advise their customers on current subsidy criteria, Bosch has developed tools such as the subsidy calculator, subsidy service and subsidy application generator. This makes it easy to provide customers with an indicative estimate of the funding available for each customer project. Foundation service saves heating contractors valuable time The outdoor unit of an air/water heat pump must be firmly anchored to the ground and requires a strong foundation. But providing such a foundation is a job that eats up a lot of the time HVAC contractors need for the actual installation of the heat pump. The new foundation service from Bosch will solve this problem in the future. Currently in the pilot phase and initially available for the Compress 5800i AW and Compress 6800i AW, the foundation service will make life much easier for HVAC professionals from 2024: from the foundation with correct condensate drainage to the fully installed and ready-to-connect outdoor unit, the right package for every project can be booked quickly and easily via the Bosch Partner Portal. The foundation supplied is always perfectly matched to the outdoor unit selected. Special features such as the required clearances, a specific installation location and the optimum installation of the condensate drain are also taken into account. The result: reduced installation effort and more time for the core business. Planned support for the design and installation of heating systems Bosch plans to introduce a tool for easy heating load calculation and hydraulic balancing to simplify the planning of new heating systems. In addition, a dismantling service will take care of the dismantling of old devices. With these services, Bosch aims to remove a significant obstacle in the day-to-day business of HVAC professionals by reducing time constraints and, more importantly, physical strain. Heat pump production in Eibelshausen has started

Eibelshausen – The Bosch Thermotechnik plant in Eibelshausen and its 400 or so associates have started the production of indoor units for the latest generation of heat pumps. 25 new jobs have already been created in 2022 for this purpose, with another 60 to follow this year. In the new heat pump production line, the storage tanks are inserted into the indoor unit of the heat pump directly on site. This greatly reduces the time needed for installation at the end user and also makes the system more robust.Bosch expands existing heat pump production network Until now, the Eibelshausen plant has solely produced hot water storage tanks for combination with various Bosch Thermotechnology products. “The start of production in Eibelshausen has expanded our existing heat pump production network in Tranås, Sweden, and Aveiro, Portugal. Bosch Thermotechnology will invest a total of 700 million euros in its heat pump business by 2025. We want to continue to outgrow the market and push ahead with the transformation of heat supply,” says Birte Lübbert, member of the Bosch Thermotechnology Executive Management in charge of Technology, Development, Production, Logistics and Quality Management. Future-proof heat pump generation The indoor unit produced in Eibelshausen since this year features an integrated 180-litre domestic hot water storage tank and a 16-litre buffer storage tank. It enables quick installation on a footprint of only 0.36 square metres and is characterised by good system robustness. The new heat pump generation is operated with the natural refrigerant R290 (propane). The natural raw material propane has a low greenhouse gas potential. In addition, propane has ideal thermodynamic properties that enables the heat pump to achieve particularly high energy efficiency and higher flow temperatures. Propane as a refrigerant in heat pumps thus ensures a future-proof and sustainable heat supply. In hybrid combination with conventional heating systems, the heat transition in existing buildings can be achieved quickly and cost-effectively, even without renovation. Thanks to an integrated sound diffuser and psychoacoustic optimization, the new generation of heat pumps is also one of the quietest units in its class. Eibelshausen site looks back on a long history Established more than 400 years ago, the Eibelshausen site is one of the oldest industrial plants in Germany and the oldest location of the Bosch Group. The site dates back to 1613, when a blast furnace plant fired with charcoal was taken into operation in Eibelshausen with the permission of the Count of Nassau-Dillenburg. Since then, metal has been processed at the plant into a wide variety of products, hot water tanks have been produced for Bosch Thermotechnik since 2007.

Bosch Thermotechnology posts record sales revenues of 4.5 billion euros for 2022

Wetzlar / Frankfurt – A climate-neutral building stock is key to a successful energy transition. The importance and relevance of this topic are reflected in the continued high demand for climate-friendly solutions. In the financial year 2022, Bosch Thermotechnology increased its sales revenues by around 12 percent in nominal terms, and by around 13 percent adjusted for exchange rate effects, to 4.5 billion euros. “Although the macroeconomic situation was very challenging, our sales revenues again reached a new record level, making 2022 a positive year overall,” says Jan Brockmann, Chairman of the Bosch Thermotechnology Division. In terms of products, energy-efficient heat pumps were the main growth drivers, with international sales up 54 percent. In Germany, the company increased its sales of heat pumps by 75 percent, clearly outpacing the market. In the European Union, Bosch expects to see disproportionate growth in this highly dynamic environment and has set itself the goal of growing faster than the market. Bosch Thermotechnology's business grew by a significant double-digit percentage in numerous markets, including 68 percent in America and 28 percent in Asia. Air conditioners were the main drivers of the strong sales growth in the USA. There Bosch Thermotechnology has a highly competitive product portfolio of continuously variable and thus very energy-efficient inverter devices. The most important market in Asia is China, where demand for wall-hung gas boilers for residential use was high. Along with the record figures, Bosch also announced that Bosch Thermotechnology will be renamed the Bosch Home Comfort Group with effect from 1 April 2023. “The renaming is the next logical and consistent step following the definition of the corporate purpose ‘Make. Home. Comfort. Green.’ a year ago,” emphasises Jan Brockmann. “The new name underlines our innovative product portfolio and our commitment to driving the global megatrend towards electrification by strongly expanding our heat pump, hybrid and air conditioning business. With the comprehensive electrification of all energy flows and the intelligent and efficient interaction between all consumption devices in the building, we combine a sustainable lifestyle with a high level of comfort.” In 2022, Bosch Thermotechnology’s total global investments in research and development increased by 13 percent compared to the previous year to 216 million euros. The global workforce rose by 1.4 percent to roughly 14,400 associates, in Germany, the number increased by around 3 percent. Bosch Thermotechnology expects the heating and air conditioning industry to develop positively in 2023. The prerequisite for this is stable framework conditions for materials and logistics. Likewise, it is necessary to continue financial support for end customers in the heat transition. Investing in heat pumps to meet climate targets Bosch Thermotechnology is one of several leading heat pump manufacturers that have signed a joint declaration of intent together with the German federal government to produce 500,000 heat pumps per year from 2025. “In order to manage the energy transition, we need to vigorously push ahead with the ramp-up of climate-friendly solutions. By 2025, we will be investing a total of 700 million euros in electrification and in strengthening our European site network, among other things,” says Jan Brockmann. At the beginning of 2023, a new production facility for heat pumps was opened in Eibelshausen in central Hesse, Germany, where Bosch manufactures indoor units for the new generation of particularly silent heat pumps running on the natural refrigerant R290 (propane). At the company’s Wernau site, Germany, the laboratory and testing facilities for heat pumps and hybrid solutions are currently being significantly expanded. Since 2020, the site’s research and development resources have increased significantly. In Tranås, Sweden, the capacity of the existing production lines has been expanded, and an additional production line for heat pumps was taken into operation in February 2023. The laboratory facilities are currently being completely renovated and expanded. Bosch is also expanding its production capacity for heat pumps in Aveiro, Portugal, where the existing production line for indoor units for air/water heat pumps will be complemented by a new production line for outdoor units in 2023. To expand the existing production of reversible air/water heat pumps in the Joint Venture with Electra Industries the foundation stone for a new heat pump factory was laid in the Israeli city of Ashkelon in February 2023. From 2024, the new plant will manufacture not only air conditioning products for the Israeli market but also heat pumps for the European market. Bosch Thermotechnology is launching a new training initiative for heat pumps on the occasion of the ISH trade show in order to further accelerate the heat pump ramp-up and to leverage optimisation potential for installation processes. The ‘Klimahelden-Schmiede’ (Climate hero forge) teaches installers how to install a heat pump in just one day instead of two. This doubles the number of possible heat pump installations when used throughout Germany. Bosch Thermotechnology offers a total of more than 20 different training courses in the field of heat pumps alone. This means that highly-trained specialists in the sanitation, heating and air-conditioning trade can drive climate protection in the building sector forward at the targeted pace and install the number of heat pumps planned for Germany. Heat pump hybrids for an affordable heat transition In view of the particularly high share of unrenovated old buildings in Germany, for example, Bosch Thermotechnology estimates that only one third of these existing buildings can be heated efficiently with heat pumps, while around two thirds of the buildings require sometimes considerable renovation investment to make them suitable for efficient heat pump operation. “We are therefore pursuing a diversified portfolio strategy. In addition to heat pumps, such a portfolio also includes heat pump hybrids consisting of a heat pump and an additional condensing boiler for peak loads. This is the only way to quickly achieve a transformation of the energy systems that is affordable for everyone – and to reach the German government’s target of using 65 percent renewable energies in new heating systems,” says Birte Lübbert, member of the Bosch Thermotechnology Executive Management responsible for technology, development, production, logistics and quality management. “As part of a hybrid system, heat pumps can be much smaller, which makes them cheaper to buy than stand-alone heat pumps. The latter usually require extensive and costly adaptation of the heating system or renovation of the building envelope,” explains Lübbert. Well-being and smart home solutions for comfort and energy efficiency 2022 saw Bosch Thermotechnology enter the attractive new market for well-being products. At the ISH trade fair, the Bosch and Buderus brands are presenting solutions from this new business field. These include products that offer consumers added comfort and well-being at home such as high-performance air purifiers, energy-efficient infrared panel heaters and mobile air conditioners. Bosch smart home solutions, such as the intelligent radiator thermostats, save up to 36 percent on heating costs thanks to flexible control options and demand-based consumption. An efficient energy supply for all energy-consuming devices is ensured by the Bosch Energy Manager: the app is the “control centre” that turns a smart home into a truly green home. Internally generated solar power is distributed intelligently and automatically, reducing electricity costs by up to 60 percent. The Energy Manager decides which system components are supplied with cost-efficient electricity generated on the roof: the latest-generation heat pump, the new wallbox (available from Q3 2023) or the energy-saving HomeConnect household appliances from BSH Hausgeräte.

Bosch Industriekessel at ISH – hall 12, C80

At this year's world-leading ISH trade fair which will take place from 13th to 17th March 2023 in Frankfurt, Bosch Industriekessel will showcase sustainable steam and heat solutions for industries and energy suppliers. Bosch's boiler experts support companies around the world in matters of carbon neutrality, energy savings and system availability. "With our technologies, we are pioneers for CO 2 -neutral heat production, both in industrial processes and in district heating applications. We offer electric steam boilers, hybrid systems and hydrogen boilers. At the same time, we help companies to operate their new and existing systems more efficiently, sustainably and reliably," says Sven Rathmann, Managing Director of Bosch Industrial Boilers.New opportunities thanks to electric steam generation Electrification is a key driving force in the shift away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energy. At this year's ISH, Bosch will present its new ELSB electric steam boiler, which will be showcased live at the stand. The ELSB is completely electric and is carbon-neutral when powered by green electricity. With 300 to 7500 kilograms of steam per hour at up to 24 bar, the ELSB covers steam processes with temperatures of up to 224 °C. The increasing expansion of renewable energies and the associated surpluses mean that electrically heated steam boilers are an attractive solution. "Demand for electric steam generation is booming. Companies from various industries and countries like Sweden, France, Germany, Hungary, Singapore and even Iceland have already bought an electric steam boiler from Bosch," highlights Sven Rathmann. Hybrid boiler systems are another pioneering technology. Thanks to their design with an electric heater and burner, different energy sources can be used simultaneously. This creates flexibility and reduces dependence on fossil fuels. If green energy sources are used in these systems, steam generation can also be carbon-neutral. Industrial boilers from Bosch are prepared for green fuels. The steam and heat generators can be operated with 100% hydrogen or biofuels. In addition, many existing systems are also qualified for an upgrade to renewable energy sources. At ISH, Bosch will demonstrate a heating system with a hydrogen burner. A comparable Bosch system is used, for example, at the Wunsiedel energy park in Germany, where an electrolysis system creates hydrogen from green electricity, some of which can be used in heat generation in future. Digital and automated: Boiler house 4.0 Digitalisation and automation can also make a significant contribution to sustainability. Bosch uses its control systems which are configured and manufactured in-house for industrial boiler systems. The software in these systems automates complex steam and heat processes and ensures transparency. Intelligent analysis and recommendation for actions also offer more options for rapidly detecting energy losses, reducing fuel consumption and maximising system availability. Bosch will demonstrate this at the stand with its range of control systems. Interactive configuration of individual steam generators How much energy and CO 2 can a steam boiler system save? How quickly does this pay off? What opportunities does switching to alternative energy sources offer? Visitors can also generate exciting evaluations on site with an efficiency configurator. "The app configures potential energy savings based on customer-specific load profiles. Cost and cost-effectiveness comparisons with the use of hydrogen, electricity and hybrid systems can also be mapped and evaluated," says Daniel Gosse, Head of Marketing and Academy at Bosch Industrial Boilers, adding: "At this year's ISH, we will not only be showcasing technology for sustainable steam and heat production. Our experts will provide interested parties with advice about which solutions would be best suited to their infrastructure, processes and individual requirements. From industry, for industry, as it were."

New electric steam boiler from Bosch supports a carbon-neutral future

100 per cent electric and fully carbon neutral with green electricity: Bosch Industrial Boilers presents the new ELSB electric steam boiler for industrial and commercial steam generation, continuing to offer more green technologies which conserve resources, reduce emissions and protect the environment and climate. "We are making it possible for industries globally to switch to sustainable generation of process heat for a carbon-neutral future. Electrification is an important part of this," says Sven Rathmann, Managing Director of Bosch Industrial Boilers. Thanks to various outputs from 350 to 7500 kilograms of steam per hour, the ELSB electric steam boiler meets the range of demand for industrial and commercial steam processes. An important point is that operation is fully carbon-neutral when using renewable electricity – let's look at an example of a customer in Iceland: As a pilot project, the company, which produces sustainable packaging, operates a Bosch ELSB with a steam output of 4000 kilograms per hours. The electricity used is generated from renewable sources with water and wind energy, meaning the steam generation is particularly sustainable and resource-saving. Other ELSB pilot plants have been put into operation in the food industry, for example. With an over 99 per cent efficiency level, the electrical heating system in the ELSB steam boiler surpasses all combustion systems. Thanks to the infinitely variable output regulation, the electric boiler has the advantage of achieving an extremely high level of flexibility across the entire load range. This ensures consistently high efficiency, as well as automatically adjusting output to suit requirements or available surplus in self-generated electricity. In addition to control systems configured in-house with software, Bosch manufactures a complete steam boiler system tailored to individual requirements, covering water treatment, condensate management and modules for saving energy. Since the ELSB is operated exclusively with electricity in accordance with the power-to-heat principle, there is no need for flue gas components, chimney or fuel supply infrastructure. This saves space and costs – and no flue gas emissions are generated on site. For service-side advice, commissioning and maintenance, operators can contact the team at Bosch Industrial Service. Not using fossil fuels and reducing CO 2 make the electric steam boiler a solution fit for the future. In addition to the ELSB, Bosch also offers boiler systems for use of 100 per cent hydrogen, biofuels or hybrid solutions. Using a multi-technology approach, Bosch enables companies to model their steam and heat supply in a carbon-neutral way depending on infrastructure and individual requirements. Furthermore, it is also possible to convert existing systems to suit new requirements. This lays the foundations for a carbon-neutral future for industry, making an important contribution to the energy transition.
