Bosch became international quite early, establishing the first foreign sales office in London in 1898, the first factory abroad in Paris in 1905, and the first US factory in 1912, growing to nearly 90 % sales outside Germany by 1913.

In 1959, Bosch started developing an electronically controlled gasoline injection system. It took six years until the technology was ready for the market. Launched in 1967, the pressure controlled Jetronic was the world’s first large series-produced electronic gasoline injection system. It premiered in the U.S. version of the Volkswagen 1600 LE and TLE models. Thanks to the Jetronic, the VW 1600 LE and TLE were able to meet the Californian environmental standards, the toughest in the U.S. and worldwide.

Reproduction for press purposes free of charge with credit “Picture: Bosch”. The handheld power tool is one of Bosch's pioneering innovations. Based on the 1928 Forfex haircutting machine, Bosch engineers developed these devices from 1930 onward for in-house manufacturing operations. Instead of an external motor connected to the hand-held device by a mobile shaft, Bosch power tools had an integrated motor that enabled them to be incorporated flexibly into the production process. They came into their own as screwdrivers and sanders for diesel injection pump production at the company. Bosch recognized the market potential of these tools and made them available to the construction industry and skilled trades from 1932 onward.

An important part of the magneto ignition was the spark plug being manufactured from 1902 until the present day - with many evolution steps since the start in 1902. This picture shows a typical manufacturing scenery of the times before assembly lines were established.

The ESP® electronic stability program, established in 1995, uses sensor signals to continuously compare the actual movement of the vehicle with the direction specified by the driver. If a rapid analysis of this data in the control unit indicates that a dangerous – and uncontrollable – situation is imminent (e.g. skidding), ESP® intervenes to correct this. By reducing the engine torque and braking each wheel individually, the system helps to avert accidents by preventing the vehicle from breaking away or skidding and to stabilize the car.
