The handheld power tool is one of Bosch's pioneering innovations. Based on the 1928 Forfex haircutting machine, Bosch engineers developed these devices from 1930 onward for in-house manufacturing operations. Instead of an external motor connected to the hand-held device by a mobile shaft, Bosch power tools had an integrated motor that enabled them to be incorporated flexibly into the production process. They came into their own as screwdrivers and sanders for diesel injection pump production at the company. Bosch recognized the market potential of these tools and made them available to the construction industry and skilled trades from 1932 onward.
