sia Abrasives has completely revised its “1950 siaspeed” range of abrasives in the medium grit range. In the course of making these changes, the previous closed coating method has been replaced by an open grit coating method. The advantage of the open coating method is that it optimizes the positioning of the abrasive grits. There is now more space in between the grits in the abrasive, thus allowing dust to drop off the abrasive more easily during sanding. This minimizes clogging and significantly extends the useful life of the abrasive. Furthermore, the use of a zinc-free stearate prevents contact corrosion when using “1950 siaspeed” abrasives on nonferrous metals such as copper and aluminum.

An effective way of sanding abrasive-clogging materials
The new generation of the “1950 siaspeed” range includes abrasives with grits ranging from P220 to P600. These products are also suitable for sanding, matt finishing and reworking of materials prone to clogging the surface of the abrasive. Such materials include, for example, resinous wood and greasy fillers. These abrasives are primarily used in automotive bodyshops but are also suitable for wood and paint processing applications. For example, they are commonly used in the form of 15-hole sanding discs with a diameter of 150 millimeters.

The new generation of ”1950 siaspeed” abrasives is now available from specialized dealers or directly through sia Abrasives. The consumer can recognize them by the ”New Generation” sticker on the packaging. The recommended retail price for standard 15-hole sanding discs with a diameter of 150 millimeters is 46 euros per 100 pieces excluding VAT.
