Immenstaad / Düsseldorf – The EHI Retail Institute has selected the retail and travel group REWE’s VisTA (Visibility of Transport Assets) logistics project to receive its Retail Technology Award in the “Best Enterprise Solution” category. The award was presented to the REWE Group at the EuroCis 2012 trade fair in Düsseldorf. The solution is based on Visual Rules technology from Bosch Software Innovations, the software and system house of the Bosch Group. The use of rules technology helps to transparently map the numerous decisions along the logistics chain. This has augmented the REWE Group’s competitive advantage in the fast-moving food retailing market, as it enables all necessary logistics changes to be implemented without delay and with a full audit trail.

In the VisTA project, the movements of upscale refrigerated containers are tracked at every stage of the delivery process. REWE has used the award-winning logistics solution to automate this record-keeping process and make it more transparent. Until now, keeping track of individual units of material handling equipment has required time-consuming manual inputs. VisTA forms part of REWE’s central store management system, which received a similar Retail Technology Award in 2010.

Logistics in the internet of things and services
By introducing RFID technology and end-to-end online networking, REWE has taken a decisive step in its logistics and shipment tracking processes toward the internet of things and services. Thanks to RFID technology, REWE is able to generate and process roughly six million data points originating from 30 logistic locations and over 10,000 REWE Group stores each day. As a result, the retail group always knows where its merchandise and material handling equipment units are currently located, and can allocate costs to each participant in the logistics chain on the basis of these data.
