press release

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – As one of the driving forces behind electromobility on two wheels Bosch eBike Systems has joined the Cycling Industry Club (CIC). Its members are leading cycling industry companies and the CIC, together with the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), promotes cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transport in society, business and politics.

More bikes, lower emissions
The bicycle is one of the world’s most successful modes of transport. Be it in the cyclist’s leisure time, in sport or for commuting to and from work, cycling is an integral part of everyday life. For society and the environment the bicycle offers undreamt-of opportunities. The US Institution for Transportation and Development Policy analysed its global potential in a recent study. If cycling’s share of transport were to treble worldwide by 2050, energy costs of about $20 billion could be saved and emissions of environmentally harmful carbon dioxide by urban passenger transport could be reduced by 11 per cent over this period.1

Joining forces for sustainable mobility
To underscore the bicycle’s importance in the mobility mix and further improve conditions for cyclists, the European Cyclists’ Federation speaks out as a representative and mouthpiece on transport, environmental and tourism policy. The Federation relies on its own know-how and on the active support of its members. The Brussels-based NGO now represents 56 organisations in 38 countries. Its latest member is Bosch eBike Systems. “With the European market leader for eBike systems as a member we reaffirm our objective of bringing sustainable mobility on two wheels into focus worldwide. For the ECF and the industry, the support given by Bosch eBike Systems is a positive signal. The bicycle has a past and a future,” says ECF Development Director Kevin Mayne.

Bosch eBike Systems – Market leader assumes responsibility
The wheel is turning and more and more people are switching to the pleasure of cycling with electrical momentum. “eBikes are an affordable, ecologically sensible and at the same time fascinating mobility solution. To ensure the lasting success of eBikes we need an intelligent cycling infrastructure. By joining the Cycling Industry Club we support the ECF in its commitment. Together with other leading industry players we strongly advocate a cycling policy that is in keeping with the times,” says Claus Fleischer, Head of Bosch eBike Systems. The Bosch Group product area thereby underscores its international alignment and assumes responsibility. What began as a start-up in 2009 has gone on to become a global player with a crucial impact on the eBike market. Over 60 leading European bicycle brands rely on drive systems “e-powered by Bosch”.
