Stuttgart/Reutlingen – As part of the municipal climate protection campaign “Tübingen macht blau,” a platform debate on “Electromobility – Aberration or Innovation?” will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on September 24, 2015, in Tübingen’s Sparkassencarré. Guests from politics, business and associations are taking part in an event under the overall heading “Ecologically Mobile.” Participants are: Boris Palmer, Lord Mayor of Tübingen, Dr. Brigitte Dahlbender, State Chair of the environmental organization BUND, Claus Fleischer, head of the Bosch eBike Systems Product Division, Frank Heuser, Tübingen District Chairman of the German ecological motoring association VCD, and Rouven Remp, in charge of Product Management at smart electric drive. Chaired by Dr. Gernot Stegert, Editor-in-chief of the Schwäbisches Tagblatt, the debate is sure to provide interesting and trendsetting views and approaches on the pedelec as a major trailblazer for the success of electromobility. Bosch eBike Systems has taken up this challenge and is one of the driving forces in the market.

Mobility – A basic need of humankind at a new level
For nearly 130 years Bosch has used technological know-how to develop innovative solutions for many applications and areas of life. Electromobility is a central issue for the company. “The mobility of the future will be electrified, automated, and connected. We at Bosch are convinced of that,” says Claus Fleischer. Mobility is one of humankind’s basic needs and a key driving force of societal and economic development. Bicycles with an electric drive system are an important part of integrated electromobility. Battery power helps to achieve daily targets even more efficiently, economically, and ecologically sustainably. More than 2.1 million pedelecs on German roads show how outstandingly well this concept works. Between now and 2020 two million battery-powered bikes a year are to be sold in Europe. “Pedelecs are the point of entry into efficient and emission-free mobility, and they can be used both individually and intermodally,” Fischer says.

The future belongs to the eBike
Pedelecs are an effective and efficient means of transport. Especially over short distances you are moving fast, inexpensively and in an eco-friendly manner. Their potential is enormous. Due to the eBike every second car trip under five kilometres is replaceable. eBikes have many advantages over using public transport, too. eBikers are not dependent on timetables and departure times. eBikers are more flexible. They decide when and where to go. Fleischer is sure that “pedelecs are an affordable, ecologically meaningful and at the same time a fascinating mobility solution for everyone. eBiking is fun, keeps you fit, and moves us forward.”

Bosch eBike Systems: A success story
What began in 2009 as a start-up within the Bosch Group has now become a division that plays a key role in the eBike market. Components “epowered by Bosch” account for the tailwind that helps to propel more than 50 leading bicycle brands in Europe. Since 2012 Bosch eBike Systems has been the European market leader. In March 2014 it moved into the North American market with a business unit in Irvine, California. Bosch eBike Systems has also had a presence in Asia since July 2014. And the launch of Nyon, the world’s first all-in-one on-board computer for eBikes to incorporate navigation and connectivity, in September 2014 marked the beginning of a new era.
