press release

Bosch is consistently expanding its award-winning, innovative “Wireless Charging System”. A mobile charging station called the “Wireless Charging L-Boxx Bay” will be available in addition to the stationary solution and the “Wireless Charging Holster”, which charges cordless drill/drivers inductively while you are driving. The “Wireless Charging L-Boxx Bay” offers professional tradespeople advantages because the cordless tool can remain in the L-Boxx during charging. Inductive energy transfer enables both the battery in the tool and the spare battery in the L-Boxx to be charged while you are on the way to the jobsite. Additionally, the GBA 18 V 4,0 Ah MW-C Professional lithium-ion battery will be part of the “Wireless Charging System”. It offers double runtime of the previous 2.0 Ah “Wireless Charging” battery.

Professionals driving from one jobsite to another can therefore perform power-demanding work such as cutting metal with a cordless angle grinder even after only a short drive. Thanks to “Flexible Power System”, the 4.0 Ah battery is also compatible with almost all 18 volt lithium-ion professional tools from Bosch and with the entire “Wireless Charging System”.

The right “Wireless Charging System” for every application
First of all, the “Wireless Charging L-Boxx Bay” will be able to charge cordless drill drivers, cordless combis and cordless impact drivers from the 18 volt class directly in the L-Boxx. This will be expanded to include other 18 volt cordless tools. Bosch therefore offers three versions of the “Wireless Charging System”. The stationary solution is designed for use in the workshop and in semi-industrial production such as furniture and vehicle construction. The “Wireless Charging Holster” is especially suitable for professionals who work directly from their car such as repair service technicians. The “Wireless Charging L-Boxx Bay” equips professional tradespeople for long periods of work on the jobsite.

Greater productivity, less planning effort
Charging batteries while driving enables professionals to work more efficiently. They no longer have to make sure that all batteries are ready to use before a job. This minimizes planning effort and saves time because with the “Wireless Charging L-Boxx Bay” the 2.0 Ah battery is 80 percent charged in only 35 minutes, and 100 percent charged in 45 minutes. The new 4.0 Ah battery is 80 percent charged in 65 minutes and 100 percent charged in 85 minutes. Simultaneous charging of two batteries also enables very long periods of on-site work. This means professional tradespeople can work without interruption – even when demanding tasks happen to take up more time.

Easy and safe to secure in the vehicle
The shockproof “Wireless Charging L-Boxx Bay” can be fitted in the vehicle in a space-saving way. For example, it can be integrated into the in-vehicle equipment system from Sortimo. The bay consists of a robust housing and securely holds one L-Boxx 136 with a weight of up to 10 kilograms. Depending on whether the “Wireless Charging L-Boxx Bay” is mounted horizontally or vertically, the L-Boxx is easily and conveniently inserted or clicked in. Charging is performed using the twelve volt connection in the vehicle. The system includes a voltage inverter which provides the right energy transfer to the charging station. Alternatively, the mobile charging station can also be connected directly to an existing 230 volt on-board voltage socket.

A requirement for inductive charging with the “Wireless Charging L-Boxx Bay” is the matching three-piece inlay set of the L-Boxx. It absorbs impact, protects tools, batteries and accessories during driving, and simultaneously secures the batteries. All L-Boxx models available with inlay will be labeled with the “Wireless Charging” logo from now on. The charging status of both batteries is easy to read from a charge level indicator both on the mobile charging station and on the battery itself. Professional tradespeople can therefore see at a glance how much energy is available to them when they arrive at the jobsite.

Award-winning innovation: the “Wireless Charging System” from Bosch
The “Wireless Charging System” has already won multiple awards and recently also won over the jury of the established Plus X Award, one of the world's biggest innovation awards for technology, sport and lifestyle products. It was named “Best Product 2015/2016” and made Bosch the “Most Innovative Brand 2015” in the “Tools” category.
The “Wireless Charging L-Boxx Bay” including voltage inverter will be available at specialist retail outlets from October 2015 onwards for 299 euros. From September 2015 onwards, all “Wireless Charging” models in the L-Boxx 136 (size 2) will be supplied with the inlay set compatible with the mobile charging station. “Wireless Charging” versions in the L-Boxx 136 purchased prior to this can be retrofitted with the inlay set for 15 euros, enabling them to also be charged in the mobile charging station.

The GBA 18 V 4,0 Ah MW-C Professional lithium-ion battery will also be available at specialist retail outlets from September 2015 onwards in the following versions:
  • individually for 135 euros,
  • as a starter set with GAL 1830 W Professional charger and mounting frame for 169 euros,
  • as a starter set with GAL 1830 W Professional charger, mounting frame and second 4.0 Ah battery for 229 euros.
All prices are recommended retail prices excluding VAT.
