press release

The global motorcycle market is growing rapidly. According to studies, the annual production of two-wheelers will raise to more than 160 million units until 2021 – that is, about a third more than today. The increasing demand affects all classes of two-wheelers, reaching from city scooters to sport bikes. In terms of original equipment, several manufacturers rely on Bosch products such as, for instance, electronically controlled injection systems, electric drives and safety features like ABS or the MSC motorcycle stability control. Bosch is market leader for motorcycle safety systems.

Special range of spare parts, diagnostics and training for two-wheelers
Apart from original equipment, Bosch also offers a broad range specifically for two-wheeler workshops as well as for motorcyclists. This constantly updated and expanded range of high-quality spare parts, workshop equipment for diagnoses, servicing and repairs as well as special trainings is perfectly aligned with the specific requirements of two-wheelers. It has recently been expanded by new products and offers:

  • Bosch M Li-ion motorcycle battery
Thanks to its innovative lithium-ion technology, the ultra-light battery features a ten times higher deep-cycle resistance than comparable lead-acid batteries. It delivers optimum starting power and ensures reliable performance, even at high temperatures. Not containing any acid, the M Li-ion battery is leak-proof and can thus be installed in any position. In addition, it is absolutely maintenance-free and features a long service life thanks to its low self-discharge. As a consequence, it survives the winter break unharmed. Moreover, it has been designed to cope with the extreme operating conditions of sport bikes and racing motorcycles. In Germany, the new motorcycle battery will be available from November 2015 onwards.
  • Gigalight Plus 120 halogen bulb
In comparison to conventional halogen bulbs, the new Gigalight halogen bulb provides up to 120 percent more light on the road. This increase in light output is achieved by the optimized filament size and the glass bulb filled exclusively with xenon gas. Used in motorcycle headlights, Gigalight Plus 120 increases the visibility and thus also the safety when driving at night or under bad weather conditions. In addition, the bright light ensures a relaxed ride.
  • Horns
For many years now, Bosch has offered horns with state-of-the-art technology and a powerful sound. Bosch also offers a broad range of horns specifically for motorized two-wheelers.
  • Spark plugs
Due to high engine torque, spark plugs used in motorcycle engines have to cope with extremely heavy strains. Bosch spark plugs for two-wheelers are thus designed for temperatures exceeding 1 000 °C and high pressures within the combustion chamber. They stand out for their good cold-starting performance and optimum combustion. The correct electrode gap is preset at the factory. The Bosch spark plug range for two wheelers covers most of the popular motorcycles, scooters and quads - and is constantly being extended.
  • Spare parts for injection systems
For motorcycles equipped with an injection system and Bosch components, the matching spare parts are available, too. This includes injectors, different types of sensors and lambda sensors.
Esitronic Bike: Bosch diagnostic software for two-wheeler workshops
As is the case with automobiles, the number of electronic safety and comfort systems is constantly increasing in the area of motorized two-wheelers as well. More and more frequently, two-wheeler workshops thus need test systems and software for ECU diagnosis, maintenance and repair. Based on the Esitronic 2.0 workshop-software package, Bosch therefore developed Esitronic Bike specifically for two-wheeler workshops. The software includes common European and Asian motorcycle makes and runs on Bosch KTS-series diagnostic testers. Together with the ECU diagnosis, the workshop is thus provided with any required data and information about the electrical components installed on the motorcycle. Regular updates make sure the data is always up-to-date and includes new models as well. At the current version, for instance, the special ECU function for brake bleeding at the Bosch motorcycle ABS has now also been added.

The special training “Motorcycle technology and Bosch Esitronic Bike” will inform the participants about the effective application of the Esitronic Bike software in everyday work at the workshop. Starting in November 2015, Bosch will offer this training at the Service Training Center in Plochingen close to Stuttgart.
