press release

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – This is the thirteenth year of European cycling's top event. In the Rad am Ring race, which this year takes place on the Nürburgring from 24 to 26 July, the pressure will be on the pedals once more – and not on the gas. It will be the second time that eBikers have also been able to demonstrate their sporting prowess on the racetrack in the 24-hour eBike Race – epowered by Bosch. In addition, the event, sponsored by Bosch eBike Systems, will include a very special test lap on the racetrack itself. On eBikes with Bosch drive systems provided specially for the occasion, visitors will have an opportunity to test ride the legendary Nordschleife themselves over a distance of 26 kilometres.

To the limit – for eBikes too
In the 24-hour race from Saturday to Sunday teams of between two and eight cyclists will show what they and their bikes can accomplish. eBikers too will be taking part in this challenging race – in four-person teams. For them the distance of about 25 kilometres, a cumulative elevation gain of 500 metres and 80 bends will include an extra challenge. Near the famous Hohe Acht, a section with a 27% gradient will be a real endurance test for both muscles and motor. Without e-powered assistance this elevation takes well-trained cyclists to the limit, and even with an electric power boost competitors will need to be extremely fit to lead the field, especially as power assistance does not exceed 25 km/h. In recent years the top speeds recorded in the Fuchsröhre have been about 100 km/h, and in 2014 the average speed clocked by eBike racers was more than 36 km/h.

On an eBike round the Nordschleife
Rad am Ring combines the sporting event and a wide range of information on offer for visitors. Different manufacturers have their latest products on show at the expo behind the pit lane and will be inviting visitors to put them through their paces. On various route racing bikes and mountain bikes of all kinds can be test ridden to gain an experience of the unique feeling that riding an eBike gives you. A further highlight for visitors is that anyone who has always fancied tackling the legendary Nordschleife on an eBike will have an opportunity to do so at this year's Rad am Ring. Bosch eBike Systems will provide eBikes free of charge to enable everyone who is interested to experience at first hand with e-powered assistance the challenges that the 26-kilometre section of the Nürburgring poses.
