press release

Bosch is expanding its existing professional range of cordless tools with EC motors to include three cordless impact drivers: the GDR 10,8 V-EC Professional and GDS 10,8 V-EC Professional in the 10.8 volt system and the GDS 18 V-EC 250 Professional in the 18 volt system. Thanks to their brushless EC motor, they offer professional tradespeople a 30 percent longer battery runtime and up to 100 percent longer lifetime compared to impact drivers with conventional motors. They therefore set new standards in efficiency when performing serial applications.

The basis for this is their brushless EC motor which is completely maintenance-free and has a high degree of efficiency, enabling tradespeople to work with the tools for longer per battery charge. It also generates less heat loss, and the tools do not get as hot. Together with the Electronic Motor Protection (EMP), which protects against overload, this doubles the lifetime of Bosch cordless tools with EC motors compared to tools with conventional motors. EC technology also allows for a very compact and lightweight design of the tools. This gives tradespeople cordless impact drivers for assembly work in installation, metal, wood or drywall construction, which are even better suited for use overhead and in confined, hard-to-reach areas.

The 10.8 volt cordless impact drivers in detail
The GDR 10,8 V-EC Professional and the GDS 10,8 V-EC Professional differ from each other in terms of bit holder (hex or square) and torque. Thanks to their Bosch EC technology, both of these cordless impact drivers have a high torque of 110 and 115 newton meters respectively and are therefore suitable for 80 percent of all common applications in wood and metal. With only one charge of their 2.5 Ah battery, they drive up to 260 screws of 4.2 millimeter diameter and 65 millimeter length in softwood or up to 240 metal screws of eight millimeter diameter and 25 millimeter length. Two preset speed settings on both tools also make work easy because the preselected speed minimizes the risk of overtightening and thus snapping screws. The first setting is designed for small screws, the second for medium screws. This corresponds, for example, to driving screws in sheet metals and wooden boards. Good illumination of the work area is provided by a luminous ring which can be switched on and off and contains three LEDs.

Compact, slim, lightweight and powerful: the GDS 18 V-EC 250 Professional
The GDS 18 V-EC 250 Professional 18 volt impact driver with its high torque of 250 newton meters in forward and reverse rotation and a weight of only 1.9 kilograms offers the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. When performing assembly work in steel, metal and machine construction, professional tradespeople can use this tool to easily loosen, for example, rusted concrete screws with a maximum diameter of 16 millimeters. With one charge of the 5.0 Ah battery, the GDS 18 V-EC 250 Professional drives 175 screws with a diameter of twelve and a length of 35 millimeters. This tool also features an exceptionally compact design with slim handle. The ball lock on the ½-inch square shank enables nutsetters to be changed quickly and easily. This cordless impact driver also includes an LED in the tool’s head.

New to the system: HEX-9 MultiConstruction drill bit for powerful drilling
In order to expand the application range of impact drivers, Bosch offers a system solution consisting of tool and accessories: Tradespeople can now use the HEX-9 MultiConstruction drill bit to also drill with a cordless impact driver, saving themselves an additional machine. The HEX-9 MultiConstruction has been specially developed for use with impact drivers. It has a hex shank which provides the best possible power transfer, for example, together with the GDR 10,8 V-EC Professional. Bosch therefore offers a lightweight system which tradespeople can use to drill in all common materials such as wood, plastic, tiles, masonry and sheet metal. The HEX-9 MultiConstruction with its sharp, diamond-ground cutting edges offers a long lifetime and ensures precise drilling starts and good drilling guidance due to its carbide centering tip.

The cordless impact drivers in the 10.8 and 18 volt class will be available at specialist retail outlets from May 2015 onwards. Bosch also offers matching accessories: the “Diamond Impact” range comprises Torx, PH, PZ and Hex screwdriver bits, each with lengths of 25 and 50 millimeters, and an “Anti-shock” bit holder. The “Impact Control” range includes different nutsetters and nutsetter sockets. Both have been specially developed for use with impact drivers.
