press release

The Ixo in the spotlight – the smallest cordless screwdriver from Bosch will be wearing a trendy fashion accessory in future, namely a fabric label bearing its name. This will further underline this everyday helper’s uniqueness because the Ixo is much more than a classical power tool. It can even open wine bottles, season food, help ignite a BBQ, drive screws round corners and cut through different materials effortlessly thanks to the universal cutting adapter. Along with its new trademark feature, it is also becoming even more ergonomical because the new Ixo has a shape designed to fit the hand perfectly and a new control concept. The switch for forward and reverse rotation has been modified to make it easier to operate. Slide the switch forwards and the Ixo will drive screws; slide it backwards and it loosens them. The on/off switch has also been modified to enable the Ixo to be operated in different grip positions. As a result, the new Ixo is a pleasure for DIYers to hold and is also a real eye-catcher.

More light and faster readiness for many creative ideas
The Ixo brightens the area in front of it using its “PowerLight”. Positioned on the head of the screwdriver, the LED emits a white and therefore brighter light, which can now also be adjusted. When set to scattered light, it reliably illuminates the work area. Set to spotlight mode, the light will be cast precisely on the screw head. Switching between the two is quick and easy – all you have to do is loosen the black screwdriver cap and rotate it 180 degrees. The new Ixo is now also charged using a micro USB cable, and its charging time has been reduced to three hours. This handy tool is therefore always ready to use for many creative ideas.

After use, the Ixo can be compactly stored alongside the charging cable and ten screwdriver bits in its slim metal casket that resembles a clutch bag. In the set versions, this casket can be clicked onto a higher module in which the matching adapters and other accessories can also be stored. The casket offers a puristic white design which underlines the lifestyle character of the Ixo.

The new Ixo will be available from April 2015 onwards in the following versions:
  • as a “Premium” version with charger, ten screwdriver bits, angle screw adapter and off-set angle adapter in the two-piece casket for 69.99 euros,
  • as a “Medium” version with charger, ten screwdriver bits and an angle screw adapter in the two-piece casket for 59.99 euros,
  • as a “Basic” version with charger and ten screwdriver bits in the shallow metal casket for 49.99 euros.
All prices are recommended retail prices including VAT.

Some 14 million units sold – the Ixo’s story
The Ixo has been revolutionizing the DIY market since 2003. Its practical “always ready” functionality coupled with its small size quickly made it a sought-after alternative to the classical hand screwdriver and ultimately resulted in it becoming the world’s most popular power tool – with about 14 million Ixos sold so far. This cordless screwdriver has also been continuously improved and has caused quite a sensation with its different outfits, such as the Ixo Swarovski version with 700 crystals in an especially glamorous housing released in 2010. In its role as an everyday helper, it helps DIYers to perform versatile projects by providing continuously increased performance levels and a collection of adapters that make Ixo moments special. Whether it be opening wine bottles, seasoning food, help ignite a BBQ or driving screws round corners – the Ixo can simply do more.
