press release

With the PSR 18 LI-2 Ergonomic cordless drill driver and the PSB 18 LI-2 Ergonomic cordless impact drill, Bosch is launching two tools onto the market that are noticeably different at first sight. They are 20 percent smaller and ten percent lighter than conventional cordless drill drivers. It is their new design that is especially noticeable: the tool axis and the recessed grip, which the hand automatically nestles into during screwdriving and drilling, are in line with each other. This results in optimum power transfer. Moreover, do-it-yourselfers can also use the drill drivers comfortably with two hands thanks to the additional arched handle that gives the tools their characteristic appearance.

Ergonomics and comfort – recommended by independent experts
The switch function for forward/reverse rotation has also been modified to make it intuitive to use. Slide the switch forwards and the tools will drive screws; slide it backwards and they loosen them. In addition, both tools have a kickback stop, which means that if during work the integrated sensor detects sudden jamming, for example due to tilting in metal or a hard object in wood or masonry, the motor immediately shuts down and prevents the tool from further turning. This is advantageous, for example, when the do-it-yourselfer is standing on a ladder and could lose his balance if the tool jolts suddenly. This unique combination of compact design, low weight, strength-saving, easy operation and kickback stop makes it so ergonomic to work with the PSR 18 LI-2 Ergonomic and PSB 18 LI-2 Ergonomic that Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V. (AGR) (Campaign for Healthier Backs) has awarded these drill drivers its seal of approval. Whether one-handed or two-handed, right-hander or left-hander, man or woman – the Ergonomic models make screwdriving and drilling easy.

Small, lightweight, powerful thanks to brushless e-motors and 2.5 Ah batteries
The PSR 18 LI-2 Ergonomic and the PSB 18 LI-2 Ergonomic are the first two cordless drill drivers for do-it-yourselfers on the market to be equipped with a brushless e-motor. This motor enables their compact design in the first place. Unlike conventional motors, the e-motor is also wear-free, which leads to a longer lifetime of the motor. The features of the drill drivers are completed by a 13-millimeter Autolock chuck and 20 torque settings plus a drill or impact drill setting. The drill drivers are powered by a 2.5 Ah battery. The new AL 1830 CV quick charger that goes with this battery charges it to 80 percent in only 40 minutes, and to 100 percent in 60 minutes. The charging speed is therefore double that of the previous system.

Great flexibility due to interchangeable battery
Both of these Ergonomic drill drivers are part of the 18 volt “Power4All” cordless system. This means flexibility for the user because the 18 volt lithium-ion battery can be used in 15 different garden and DIY tools from Bosch within this voltage class. A logo on the packaging indicates which tools are “Power4All” tools.

The PSR 18 LI-2 Ergonomic cordless drill driver and the PSB 18 LI-2 Ergonomic cordless combi drill will be available at retail outlets from October 2015 onwards in the following versions:
  • In a carrying case including one battery and a quick charger for 199.99 euros and 219.99 euros respectively.
