press release

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – Bosch eBike Systems is backing extreme adventurers Tanja and Denis Katzer as sponsorship partners on the next leg of their project of a lifetime, “the Big Trip”, starting in June 2015. It will take them across China on eBikes with Bosch drive systems over a distance of 15,000 kilometers. On a bike expedition they expect to take them a year and a half, tough terrain and changing climate conditions will pose an extraordinary challenge for both the Katzers and their eBikes.

Adventurers trust in reliable technology and ecologically sustainable travel
Previous extreme expeditions on pedelecs with Bosch drive systems – Susanne Bruesch rode across Mongolia and Maximilian Semsch around Australia – have shown how important reliable technology is on extreme journeys. Because eBikes are sustainable and go easy on resources and the environment, they fit the philosophy of Tanja and Denis Katzer, who for the forthcoming endurance test that will take them right across China deliberately opted for pedelecs with a Bosch drive system. “eBikes link our expeditions in an ecological manner and take us around the world,” says Denis Katzer. “Thanks to Bosch eBike Systems' Performance Line we benefit from an additional electric tailwind that helps us to cross even pathless terrain. It makes the journey significantly more pleasant. We are delighted to have Bosch eBike Systems on our side as a sponsor and look forward to many exacting legs of a journey on which muscle and motor can show what they can do.”

“Electromobility has already made a significant mark in many fields and is set to become increasingly important in the future. It is a subject that has always played a leading role for Bosch eBike Systems because by developing fascinating and beneficial eMobility solutions we are contributing to tomorrow's mobility. With our support we are literally giving the trans-China trip that little extra push,” says Tamara Winograd, Section Manager of Marketing Communications at Bosch eBike Systems.

Solar power for the eBike
On this ultimate adventure – a further leg on a 30-year expedition – the Katzers are crossing the “Middle Kingdom” on heavily packed Riese & Mueller pedelecs. Equipped with the Cruise version of the latest Performance Line drive system, an Intuvia on-board computer and powerful PowerPack 400 batteries, they will always have the power they need in order to master this latest challenge with aplomb. And solar panels on their trailers will ensure that the Katzers do not run out of “juice” en route.
