press release

The PTC 470 and PTC 640 manual tile cutters from Bosch are designed to provide precise results while being quick and easy to handle. These tools enable do-it-yourselfers to score and break tiles with precision in one step. The tile does not have to be removed from the tool after scoring, nor does the tool have to be converted. Moreover, the tile is securely fixed at all times by a clamping device and is scored using a titanium-coated cutting wheel which has an exceptionally long life and ensures a precise break. The combination of these product features is unique in the market and distinguishes the PTC 470 and the PTC 640 from comparable competitor models.

How easily it's done
The tile cutters are suitable for cutting ceramic wall and floor tiles up to twelve millimeters thick. They differ in terms of cutting capacity, with the PTC 470 being suitable for tiles up to 470 millimeters long and the PTC 640 for tiles up to 640 millimeters long. Both tools work in the same way. The tile is placed flush against the guide edges at the front and fixed using the clamping rail. When doing so, the rail automatically adapts to the tile thickness thanks to its integrated spring mechanism. As a result, the tile is always well clamped and cannot shift during scoring. Then the actual cutting begins. The titanium-coated cutting wheel at the bottom of the scoring lever is slid over the entire tile using light pressure. Then you simply fold down the breaking stamp integrated into the sides and use it to break the tile cleanly at the scoring line – all in one step. The work is therefore done quickly, and the risk of shattering the tiles is considerably lower using this innovative scoring and breaking technique.

Robust tools with compact design
Both tile cutters offer high precision in straight and diagonal cuts. A scale on the ruler and guide allows for millimeter-accurate use. A 45-degree guide is also included with the tools in order to make diagonal cuts. Both tile cutters are also very robust and compact. Their die-cast aluminum base plate is equipped with rubber feet. This ensures that the PTC 470 and PTC 640 have a very stable standing position and cannot shift during use. The tools weigh 7.4 and 9.1 kilograms respectively. They are equipped with two carrying handles to enable them to be comfortably transported from one work location to another. The moving parts are protected by a transport safety lock.

The PTC 470 and PTC 640 tile cutters will be available at retail outlets from February 2015 onwards at the recommended retail price of 149.99 euros and 199.99 euros respectively including VAT. Both come complete with a ruler, a parallel/angle guide and a titanium-coated cutting wheel. The PTC 640 additionally has a fold-out support extension for more stability when scoring and breaking large tiles, and a movable stop for serial cuts. Both tools are supplied in a carton and are immediately ready to use.
