press release

Bosch is now offering two versions of a rotation laser with 500-meter working range (diameter) for all outdoor leveling work: the GRL 500 H + LR 50 Professional for horizontal leveling (H) and the GRL 500 HV + LR 50 Professional for horizontal and vertical leveling (HV). The LR 50 Professional receiver included with the tool also serves as the remote control for the laser. There is therefore no need for the user to take a separate remote control to the jobsite. Moreover, this makes the new Bosch rotation laser the first on the market to have effective theft protection. Firstly, it can only be used together with the LR 50 Professional because there are no controls on the body of the tool. Secondly, an alarm is activated as soon as the rotation laser is switched on. If the laser is moved without the LR 50 Professional being docked in the holder provided on the tool, an integrated motion sensor automatically triggers an audible signal both on the rotation laser and on the receiver. All functions of the laser are also disabled.

“All-in-one” tool is charged simultaneously
Moreover, the GRL 500 H/HV Professional and LR 50 Professional can be charged simultaneously. This is done by sliding the receiver into the holder provided on the rotation laser and plugging the mains-connected power adapter into the base of the rotation laser – then the integrated lithium-ion batteries will begin to charge. After only twenty minutes, enough energy for four hours of runtime is available again. After one hour the batteries are 60 percent charged, and after three hours they are fully charged. This corresponds to a runtime of about 25 hours.

Functional features for quick, easy and precise leveling
The GRL 500 H/HV + LR 50 Professional has functional features which enable quick, easy and precise leveling. For example, the user can calibrate the tool himself after it has fallen down or if it has been outside of the permitted storage temperature range. The LR 50 Professional indicates by itself whether the calibration has to be checked – this is accomplished by sensors which monitor the tool even when it is switched off.

The GRL 500 H/HV + LR 50 Professional levels itself in the horizontal or vertical position, compensating for tilts of up to ± 10 percent (5.7 degrees). The horizontal leveling accuracy is ± 0.05 millimeters per meter, while the vertical leveling accuracy is ± 0.1 millimeters per meter. The Anti-Drift System (ADS) helps to prevent errors during leveling. It is activated as soon as the accuracy of the tool might be compromised by a shock or vibration, for example from strong wind. The tool is also dust and splash protected to IP 56 and automatically goes into sleep mode if it is not used for more than 30 minutes. All settings are saved when this happens.

The LR 50 Professional is equipped with a large reception area and an illuminated display which can be read from the front and back. A “Centre Line” function enables the rotation laser to automatically find the center of the receiver and align the laser with it. The existing slope is shown in percent. Another function is the display of the relative height in millimeters. This is used, for example, when you want to check the flatness of a floor. The tool also has a slope function, which means that a known slope can be entered directly in 0.1 percent steps using the LR 50 Professional instead of having to manually measure and set the slope. In addition to this, the HV version has the “Line Control” function in vertical mode. This is used, for example, to position pillars in an exact row in hall construction projects.

The GRL 500 H + LR 50 Professional will be available at specialist retail outlets from October 2014 onwards at the recommended retail price of 899 euros plus VAT, the GRL 500 HV + LR 50 Professional at 999 euros. The tools are each supplied in a carrying case including the fastenings and clamp for a measuring rod, and a power adapter with the cables required for charging. There will also be set versions including a tripod and measuring rod.

The LR 50 Professional receiver will also be available separately from April 2015 onwards for 299 euros plus VAT. Accessories such as tripods, measuring rods or laser viewing glasses are available in the Bosch accessory range.
