press release

High-performance spark plugs: Bosch developed the new high-performance spark plugs for the specific requirements of highly charged gasoline direct injection engines. Thanks to improved mechanical strength – especially caused by the new design of the insulator – the spark plug copes with combustion-chamber pressures of up to 250 bars as can be achieved by modern direct-injection systems. Using new ceramic materials, the dielectric strength was increased to 45 kV. Featuring improved insulation characteristics, the high-performance spark plugs meet the increased ignition-voltage requirements of direct-injection engines working with increased pressures. Increased inflammation of the air/fuel mixture with the high-performance spark plugs and under any operating condition of the engine ensures increased efficiency of the engine and reduced fuel consumption.

Developing the new spark plugs, the engineers could benefit from the extensive know-how Bosch has as a system supplier of gasoline direct injection systems and from the experience gained in motorsports as well as in over 111 years of spark-plug production. The close cooperation with vehicle manufacturers in series production facilitates the specific adjustment of spark plugs to the respective engines. 360-degree laser welding is used to produce these spark plugs featuring a precious-metal center electrode.

Aerotwin Plus wiper blade: With a new adapter system and the innovative wiper-rubber technology Power Protection Plus (PPP), Bosch further developed the Aerotwin wiper blade. Combining 4 adapters and 15 wiper-blade lengths, more than 100 vehicle-specific wiper-blade sets can be replaced. Using the new Multi-clip adapter system, each wiper blade can be fitted to ten different wiper arms – a total of 6 possible combinations more than previously. Consequently, more vehicle types are covered and the warehousing costs for workshops and retailers are reduced. The attractive packaging also illustrates well how to fit the wiper blade. In addition, a QR code links to the matching assembly-instruction video.

Another novelty of the Aerotwin is the wiper-rubber technology with the patented PPP coating. It ensures optimum wiping performance under any weather condition and without leaving streaks or deposits. The service life of the wiper blade is also increased since the new coating makes the wiper-element lip more resilient. After all, Power Protection Plus also reduces the coefficient of friction of the material considerably. As a result, the wiper blade glides over the windshield in a smooth and quiet manner – even with light rain falling.

New copper-free brake pads: Bosch launches copper-free brake pads for the automotive aftermarket and the workshop business. Until now, copper used in conventional brake pads ensured the dissipation of heat and thus contributed to avoiding squeaking noises or vibrations. But since the copper particles formed while braking are considered to damage the environment, several US states demand a reduced amount of copper within brake pads already today. In the European Union, there are no such regulations yet. For being future-oriented, Bosch anyways offers copper-free brake pads for the European market as early as today. Apart from their environmental compliance, copper-free Bosch brake pads feature the same high standards – both for continuous operations and emergency braking – as applied to original equipment.

Automotive halogen bulb Gigalight Plus 120: The new bulb for headlamps, Bosch Gigalight Plus 120, increases the road illumination by up to 120 percent in comparison with conventional halogen bulbs. The new source of light creates a longer beam of light in front of the car and thus increases the visual range. Obstacle and hazardous situations can be recognized earlier – the driver thus has more time to react. The intensive daylight-like light ensures relaxed and comfortable driving – also over greater distances and under bad weather conditions.

The Automotive Aftermarket division (AA) provides the aftermarket and repair shops worldwide with a complete range of diagnostic and repair shop equipment and a wide range of spare parts – from new and exchange parts to repair solutions – for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Its product portfolio includes products made as Bosch original equipment, as well as aftermarket products and services developed and manufactured in-house. More than 18,000 associates in 150 countries, as well as a global logistics network, ensure that some 650,000 different spare parts reach customers quickly and on time. In its “Automotive Service Solutions” operations, AA supplies testing and repair-shop technology, diagnostic software, service training, and information services. In addition, the division is responsible for the “Bosch Service” repair-shop franchise, one of the world’s largest independent chains of repair-shops, with some 17,000 workshops. In addition, AA is responsible for more than 1,000 “AutoCrew” partners.
