press release

Stuttgart/Reutlingen – Following its North American market entry at the beginning of the year, Bosch eBike Systems, the European market leader in eBike drive systems, is extending its activities to the Far East from July 1, 2014. To do so the company is setting up a regional business unit with technical and commercial experts in Suzhou, China. Its main aims are to assist the local bicycle industry with development and production, to ensure swift and flexible delivery dates and to achieve proximity to the market. Bosch eBike Systems intends above all to make use of optimised logistics and to be ready to fulfil global market requirements. The company also sees potential for pedelecs in Asia Pacific (APAC) markets.

Industry and markets in Asia
To network more effectively with the bicycle industry in Asia, Bosch eBike Systems is setting up a regional business unit in Suzhou. From Suzhou, globally active eBike manufacturers in Taiwan, China and Vietnam are to receive direct support, initially for production and exports to Europe and the United States. In addition, established markets such as Japan and new markets in Australia, China and Korea are to be served. “We are delighted that the pedelec is catching on in the Asia Pacific region. Markets there have interesting growth potential and we are convinced that we can achieve in Asia the success that we have achieved in Europe”, said Claus Fleischer, Head of the Bosch eBike Systems product division.

Expand existing business structures
To cater adequately for specific requirements in Asia, a market presence there is required. The regional business unit Asia Pacific is being launched with a team of Bosch experts who have experience of different markets and product areas. “In the past our focus in Asia has been mainly on collaboration with suppliers. It is now being joined by logistics and production as well as sales and service in the region's markets. That requires a central point of contact, and from Suzhou we can intensify our cooperation with partners and customers and ensure swift response times and flexible deliveries”, said Fouad Bennini, former senior manager product management and future regional business unit leader Asia Pacific. One of his priorities will be to implement the logistics concept. “After our successful US market entry in April developing the Asian market is the next major step for us. We will launch a successful logistics concept and the support from Bosch to which we are accustomed. I am convinced that they will prove of decisive assistance as we progress globally”, Bennini added. Bosch eBike Systems can also build on an existing infrastructure. Bosch has been active in the automotive sector since 1999 in Suzhou.
