press release

Since launching the 2.0 Ah battery for 36 volt professional tools in January of this year, Bosch has been the first manufacturer to consistently offer its battery range with 2.0 and 4.0 Ah. Now there is to be a further increase in Ah in the 18 volt class: the new 5.0 Ah batteries offer a further 25 percent increase in runtime over the previous 4.0 Ah batteries. At the same time they have a size of only 11.5 x 7.5 x 5.5 centimeters and a weight of 620 grams, making them the smallest and lightest 5.0 Ah batteries for 18 volt tools on the market.

Full capacity utilization thanks to CoolPack technology
“The biggest advantage of our 5.0 Ah batteries is that they can fully exploit their capacity even in intensive applications”, says Jan Breitenbach, who worked on the battery technology for Bosch professional tools as a project leader. The basis for this is the tried-and-tested CoolPack technology from Bosch. “Batteries become increasingly hot the longer they are in use and the more performance is demanded from them during an application”, explains the expert. “Lithium-ion batteries must not be operated at a temperature of over 70 degrees Celsius.” A CoolPack battery from Bosch constantly dissipates any heat outwards due to its special housing geometry with cooling fins. As a result, it remains considerably cooler inside than conventional batteries and remains operational over the entire runtime of 5.0 Ah. The heat dissipation also has a positive effect on the lifetime of the battery, enabling it to last for twice as long as a battery without CoolPack technology. And if the temperature does temporarily increase very quickly and severely, for example when the tool stalls, the Electronic Cell Protection (ECP) developed by Bosch will react. It reliably protects the battery not only against overheating, but also overload and deep discharge.

Fully compatible with the existing 18 volt range
Anyone who purchases a battery from Bosch can use it straightaway, without having to worry about whether it will fit because the tried-and-tested “Flexible Power System” ensures compatibility with all existing power tools and chargers within a voltage class. This is also the case with the 5.0 Ah battery with 18 volts. “What for us is a matter of course no longer applies to all systems on the market nowadays”, says Breitenbach. “We offer professional tradespeople planning and cost certainty with our batteries.”

Bosch ProService for lithium-ion tools including batteries and chargers
Bosch offers tradespeople purchasing any lithium-ion battery, cordless tool or charger a two-year service that goes way beyond the standard warranty: the 24-month ProService. Spare parts and wear parts are also replaced for free within this time period. The exact warranty conditions are available at www.24proservice.de. The 24-month ProService applies to the entire professional lithium-ion cordless range: from 3.6 to 36 volts. All services are free within the 24-month period.

The new 5.0 Ah batteries with lithium-ion and CoolPack technologies will be available at specialist retail outlets from April 2014 onwards for 18 volt professional tools. The recommended retail price is 160 euros plus VAT.
