press release

The 18 volt lithium-ion batteries from Bosch enable do-it-yourselfers to now work with their Bosch tool for 33 percent longer before the battery has to be recharged. Bosch has increased the capacity of the battery by a third from 1.5 to 2.0 ampere hours – whilst maintaining the same battery weight and volume. The new batteries have been equipped with a “Smart LI-Ion+” electronic control system. It ensures that the lithium-ion battery always delivers exactly the amount of power required for the respective application. This saves energy, and less charging cycles are required to complete larger construction projects. This can be demonstrated using the PSR 18 LI-2 drill/driver as an example. This tool drives up to 400 small screws measuring 4 x 30 millimeters in softwood with one charge of the 2.0 Ah battery, instead of the 300 previously capable with the 1.5 Ah battery. It requires only four rather than six charging cycles to drive 200 large screws measuring 10 x 100 millimeters. This enables do-it-yourselfers to work more efficiently, and to conserve resources at the same time.

Small, lightweight and powerful: lithium-ion batteries from Bosch
With the Ixo screwdriver, in 2003 Bosch was the first to integrate a lithium-ion battery into a power tool and is a pioneer in this field. Lithium-ion technology enabled more compact and lighter batteries and power tools to be built and continues to offer do-it-yourselfers numerous advantages to this day. For example, the Bosch batteries have hardly any self-discharge and no memory effect, unlike former battery technologies such as nickel cadmium. The Electronic Cell Protection (ECP) ensures long battery life. It reliably protects the battery against overload, overheating and deep discharge. The 2.0 Ah batteries are compatible with all tools in the “Power4All” 18 volt system. This gives the user a lot more flexibility: the battery can be used in more than ten different garden and DIY tools from Bosch within this voltage class, including drill/drivers, jigsaw, hedgecutter and grass trimmers. Anyone who already owns such a power tool can purchase the 2.0 Ah battery as an accessory and use it in their existing tools.

All DIY tools in the 18 volt range from now on will be equipped with the 2.0 Ah batteries and are available now at retail outlets. The previous recommended retail prices remain the same. The 2.0 Ah battery is also available as an accessory. It is supplied in blister packaging for 59.99 euros.
