Bosch Continues to Expand the Karlsruhe Site Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Expansion and Modernization of the Logistics Center

Karlsruhe. On September 20, 2013, Bosch started work on the comprehensive expansion and modernization of its logistics center with a symbolic "groundbreaking ceremony." "This is a clear commitment to our site here in Karlsruhe," said Dr. Michael Klemm, Member of the Automotive Aftermarket Divisional Board at Robert Bosch GmbH, speaking at the ceremony, which was also attended by representatives from the city. This is also a great financial commitment — over the next few years, a total of 100 million euros will be invested in the construction work, making a significant contribution to long-term job security. Bosch currently employs a total of 1540 associates in Karlsruhe.

The groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of a flurry of construction activity at the Bosch site in Karlsruhe-Durlach. The building that houses the existing logistics center will be significantly expanded, increasing the size of the available storage area by approximately 20,000 m2. The capacity of the high-rack warehouse will also be significantly increased: It is set to grow by more than 50,000 storage positions to a total capacity of 150,000. "By undertaking this work, we are equipping the site to meet the requirements of a European central warehouse in the future," explained Divisional Board member Dr. Klemm. Thanks to good transport links and a favorable location in the Breit industrial zone, the site is already ideally suited to this purpose.

In addition to increasing the size of the facility, the technology used throughout the entire logistics chain will also be modernized. Once the construction work has been completed, it is the customers who will see the greatest benefit. The modernization of the logistics center will significantly reduce service times, while the additional warehouse capacity will ensure it is possible to stock sufficient quantities of all components from the extensive product range. In future, customers will therefore receive a fast and comprehensive service every time.
