press release

The Bosch “2-step” grinding system for angle grinders enables professional tradespeople to efficiently grind weld seams and then produce a clean surface afterwards in only two steps. The system is designed for working on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum. The process involves using a fiber disc and a nonwoven SCM disc (SCM = Surface Conditioning Material), which are precisely coordinated with each other. First of all, the fiber disc is used to remove the weld seam. Then the SCM disc is used to provide a smooth surface with a fine texture. There is no need for the intermediate steps required with conventional abrasives, which involve having to use multiple grits in succession to achieve the same result. This saves time and money.

Very good results by using nonwoven abrasives
The consistent surface quality given by SCM is due to the conformability of the 3-dimensional matrix of synthetic fibres. This enables the abrasive grain, which is held onto the synthetic fibres by carefully chosen resin systems, to very quickly refine deep scratches caused by grinding whilst preventing the abrasive from digging too deep into the metal surface. This fast cutting, fine finishing action makes it easy for operatives with lower skill levels to obtain professional results.

Fiber discs and SCM discs are available in standard sizes for angle grinders, regardless of the brand. Bosch offers different professional tools, including the GWS 14-125 Inox Professional. With its speed of maximum 7,500 revolutions per minute, it is especially suitable for working with the “2-step” grinding system.

To achieve optimum results, the following combinations of discs are recommended for working on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum:

Carbon steel – Preparation for powder coating
 1) 2 608 607 255 “Best for Metal” fiber disc, 125 mm diameter, P36
 2) 2 608 607 635 “Best for Inox” SCM disc, 125 mm diameter, extra coarse
Stainless steel – Preparation for satin finishing
 1) 2 608 608 313 “Best for Inox” fiber disc, 125 mm diameter, P80
 2) 2 608 607 636 “Best for Inox” SCM disc, 125 mm diameter, coarse
 Aluminum – Preparation for coating
 1) 2 608 606 733 “Best for Metal” fiber disc, 125 mm diameter, P60
 2) 2 608 607 637 “Best for Inox” SCM disc, 125 mm diameter, medium
SCM discs have a diameter of 125 millimeters and are available at specialist retail outlets in medium, coarse and extra coarse versions. The prices per double pack are between 15.55 and 17.05 euros. The required backing pad is available for 12.35 euros.

The “Best for Metal” fiber discs are offered in diameters of 115 to 230 millimeters, while the “Best for Inox” fiber discs are offered in diameters of 115 to 180 millimeters. The prices per 125 millimeter disc are between 0.6 and 1.20 euros. All prices are excluding VAT.
