press release

The proportion of electronic components used in automotive construction has risen sharply in recent years, a development to which Bosch has made a major contribution with new systems and applications. One example is electronic engine control, which makes it possible to reduce consumption and observe strict emissions targets, while still improving performance. The components and systems are notable for their impressive reliability. With so many control units and electronic components on the market, it is inevitable that vehicle workshops will also encounter faults. Faulty components are often replaced with new parts. However, these costs may be too high to ensure economical repair, especially for owners of older vehicles.

Bosch offers workshops a value-driven alternative by refurbishing and repairing electronic components. This “Electronic Service” provides a wide range of repair options and is being continually expanded. Engine control units, ABS, navigation systems and car radios, display instruments and displays, driver information and telematics systems, as well as hydraulic controllers for agricultural machinery, are reconditioned or repaired to Bosch quality standards. Repairs take a maximum of 48 hours. Added to that is the time it takes to courier the package, at one day per route.

Fast, Convenient Repairs via the Internet Portal
The repairs process is extremely simple and convenient for the workshop. The user enters a search on the online portal and then receives information about whether the electronic component can be repaired. They can then also arrange for repair and transportation online. A courier service will collect the faulty part no later than the following day, then take it to the repair shop and return it three days later once the repairs have been carried out.

Access to Development Documents and Expertise Ensures Quality
The devices are first cleaned in preparation for repair and are then subjected to a comprehensive diagnosis procedure and fault analysis. This involves the use of “vehicle simulation” and/or a fully automatic test using series technology carried out by one of the Bosch Electronic Service associates, of which there are approximately 270. Each component is precisely diagnosed and refurbished using special measuring and repair equipment. During refurbishing, components are also replaced as a preventative measure and software is updated as necessary. Bosch provides a one-year guarantee for repairs and a two-year guarantee for reconditioned devices.

For its contribution to conserving resources Bosch Electronic Service is included in the “Green Directory” at the Automechanika 2012 trade fair in Frankfurt. The “Green Directory” only lists those selected products that make a particular ecological contribution with their innovations and services.
