press release

With the GSS 230 AVE Professional and the GSS 280 AVE Professional, Bosch is extending its range of orbital sanders for professionals to include two anti-vibration tools. Both sanders achieve vibration levels of maximum 2.5 m/s2, and therefore are among the first orbital sanders with full vibration damping on the market. This is made possible by decoupling the drive and housing units. As a result, the vibration is not transferred to the user but is absorbed, similar to the effect of a shock absorber. This means that professional tradesmen can perform everyday sanding work without any time limit.

The GSS 230 AVE Professional and the GSS 280 AVE Professional are used whenever first-class quality of finish is required. This may be typical carpentry work, dry construction work, or painting and decorating work. By decoupling the recessed handle, the sanding pad maintains complete contact with the surface of the workpiece even when the feed pressure is not distributed evenly on the tool's grip-surfaces. As a result, more material is consistently removed and the work gets done faster. A 350-watt motor in the GSS 280 AVE Professional and a 300-watt motor in the GSS 230 AVE Professional supply the power required. The sander can be adapted for any sanding application by preselecting the pad’s speed.

Newly developed paper clamping system
Another special feature of the new generation of AVE orbital sanders is their unique paper clamping system. As before, the user secures the paper on both sides by using a clamping gap. A new feature is the clamping bar on one side, which when actuated draws the abrasive paper taut across the base of the tool. The new clamping system ensures that the abrasive paper always lies absolutely flat and correctly on the surface of the abrasive. Abrasives from a roll are therefore just as easy to use in combination with the GSS 230 AVE Professional and the GSS 280 AVE Professional as abrasives with a Velcro fastening. The larger vibration plate of the GSS 280 AVE is designed for the use of abrasive paper with a length of 280 millimeters, while that of the GSS 230 AVE is designed for paper 230 millimeters in length. Particularly good results are achieved when sanding lacquers, paints and fillers using the abrasive paper “best for Paint”. This product is available from the Bosch accessories range.

Transparent microfilter box for dust-free working
Both orbital sanders come equipped with a transparent microfilter dust box. The dust box is designed for dust-free working without an extraction unit, and is easy to remove and empty. Thanks to its transparent design, the user can see the fill level at all times. In addition, an industrial dust extractor, for example the Bosch GAS 50 M Professional, can be attached to the standardized suction port on the sander at any time.

The orbital sanders GSS 230 AVE Professional and GSS 280 AVE Professional will be available at specialist retail outlets in the following versions from September 2012 onwards:
· In a carton with microfilter dust box, auxiliary handle, a sheet of abrasive paper for clamping and a sheet of abrasive paper for Velcro fastening for 285 euros (GSS 230 AVE) respectively 335 euros (GSS 280 AVE).
