press release

The motto of the abrasives in the D480 “Speed Series” from Bosch is “Faster from start to perfect finish”. They have been specially developed for professional sanding of coatings and composites, covering the entire application range from removing paint and varnish, to intermediate and filler sanding, through to high-gloss finish.

Very good results and fast work progress
The D480 abrasives system includes grits from 40 to 1500. It is designed to quickly achieve very good surface quality. For this reason, each grit is designed to work in combination with all remainder grit sizes from the same series: the special abrasive grain mixture with self-sharpening ceramic grit ensures a high material removal rate when coarse sanding, whereas the remarkably even distribution of the grains on the abrasive leads to a very homogeneous sanding pattern when intermediate and fine sanding. This makes time-consuming re-work redundant.

A special stearate coating ensures a long lifetime of the abrasives. It prevents the sanding paper from becoming quickly clogged with the removed material. The abrasives are available in the standard sizes for random orbit and orbital sanders, regardless of the brand. Bosch offers various different models including, for example, the GEX 125-150 AVE Professional random orbit sander. It is the first random orbit sander on the market with an effective damping system thanks to the drive unit and the outer housing shell being decoupled from each other. As a result, the vibration is not transferred to the user but rather absorbed, similar to the effect of a shock absorber. The result is a vibration emission value of maximum 2.5 m/s2. This means that professional tradesmen can carry out everyday sanding work with the GEX 125-150 AVE Professional without any time limit.

New abrasives range
This year, Bosch will widely implement and launch its abrasives range for professionals. Together with the D480 “Speed Series”, over 15 additional series are being introduced to the market. The new abrasives range covers the entire spectrum from hand sanding, to sanding with power tools, through to use with stationary tools for different materials. For the development of its abrasive ranges, Bosch leveraged 135 years experience of sia Abrasives, a worldwide leading manufacturer which has been acquired by Bosch.

The new abrasives range including the D480 “Speed Series” will be available at specialist retail outlets from July 2012 onwards.
