FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Bosch Community Fund recently awarded $86,249 in grants to school districts and organizations in the Owatonna, Minnesota, area. The seven grants fund education programs focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM); manufacturing; and professional development for teachers.
By investing in lab improvements, teacher training, and enhancements in STEM and engineering curricula, the Bosch Community Fund is able to impact the lives of students in the community. “Many organizations are impacting the Owatonna community through the advancement of STEM learning opportunities and ensuring quality programs are accessible to local students,” said Chuck Miklich, vice president of operations at Bosch Automotive Service Solutions in Owatonna. “Bosch is proud to equip these organizations with some of the resources and tools they need to educate youth as they explore their interests and prepare to enter the workforce.” The grants support organizations and initiatives that expose students to robotics courses, career preparedness classes and manufacturing workshops, among other engaging programs.
The Bosch Community Fund awarded grants to the following organizations:
- Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwests BizTown Program for Owatonna Public Schools – $5,400
- Owatonna Chamber Foundations Made in Owatonna Days – $5,300
- Owatonna Public Schools Owatonna Middle School Environment; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Program Teaching Certificate Coursework; and New Student Engineering Courses – $30,000
- Owatonna Public Schools STEM Education and Professional Development – $1,000
- Riverland Community College Foundations Owatonna Flexible Science Lab Remodeling – $10,000
- Somali American Cultural Organization of Owatonna Innovators Program – $9,549
- South Central College North Mankato Campus Foundations Advanced Manufacturing Career Pathways Project – $25,000
“The Made in Owatonna Days initiative is helping 150 high school students each year to see firsthand what certain careers look like, and whats available right in their community,” said Brad Meier, president and CEO of Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. “The Bosch Community Fund grant has made this initiative a reality by providing the funds that allow us to bus students around the community, feed them, provide tours and conduct evaluations of the program. This represents an incredible partnership in the Owatonna Community and gives students the opportunity to learn about career options and prepare for their futures.”
The Bosch Community Fund provides grants in U.S. communities where Bosch has locations. Since 2014, the Bosch Community Fund has awarded more than $308,000 to schools and organizations in the Owatonna, Minnesota, area. Annually, the Bosch Community Fund awards up to $5 million in grants to organizations invited to participate in the program.
