Mammoth Lakes, Calif. – On Saturday September 17th near the base of Californias Mammoth Mountain ski resort, the legendary Kamikaze Bike Games held its first ever electric mountain bike race, the TLD Boogaloo epowered by Bosch. 32 riders competed in this inaugural invite-only race, presented by Troy Lee Designs and Bosch eBike Systems, including legends from the cycling, motocross, and action sports worlds like Nat Ross, Jeff Ward, Mike Metzger, and Victor Sheldon, to name a few. Victor Sheldon, a decorated athlete in both personal watercraft and cycle racing, clinched first place on a Bosch Performance Line CX equipped eMTB. In a show of bike industry solidarity, Sheldon donated the $2,000 Boogaloo Grand Prize from Troy Lee Designs and Bosch to support BMX Olympic athlete Sam Willoughbys recovery from a recent serious injury (#strengthfor91). I want to extend a big thanks to all the racers for coming out and all the support, said Troy Lee, Owner of Troy Lee Designs. We planted a seed for sure and hope we can make it two times bigger next year. Bosch was super stoked to work with Troy Lee Designs, Mammoth Mountain, and Transworld to pull off the first eMTB invitational at the historic Kamikaze Games, said Claudia Wasko, General Manager of Bosch eBike Systems Americas. Back in the 80s, Kamikaze changed bike racing as we know it, and now with the addition of electric mountain biking, theyre proving theyre still on the cutting edge. The race featured only Class 1 eMTBs from Trek, Specialized, Bulls, Haibike, and KTM, which have top assisted speed of 20 mph and are pedal-assist only (no throttle). Racers competed in four heats of eight, with the top four in each heat advancing to the finals.
