Rick Snyder joined Plymouth Township Supervisor Shannon Price, Robert Bosch LLC President Mike Mansuetti and other Bosch executives today for a ribbon-cutting at the 220,500-square-foot expansion of Boschs Technical Center located at 15000 Haggerty Road in Plymouth Township. "Bosch's continued commitment to our state and the talented people who work here demonstrates to the rest of the world that Michigan is a great place to invest, expand, and create more and better jobs," Snyder said. "Michigan's job climate keeps improving. This tech center expansion is the latest example of businesses investing in Michigan to provide good-paying opportunities to Michiganders." Mansuetti told the group of government officials, community leaders and Bosch associates assembled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony today: Innovation is key to Boschs future, and this technical center is one place where innovation happens at Bosch. Building on the legacy of our founder, Robert Bosch, our motivation is to create products that spark enthusiasm, improve the quality of life, and help conserve natural resources, thus following our strategic imperative of Invented for life. Expansion nearly doubles the size of the Technical Center The expansion approximately doubles the size of the existing technical center, which opened in 2007. The total site, which is located on 75 acres, has more than 445,000 square feet and capacity for 1,400 people. The expansion further enables the growth of several key technologies, including automotive electronics, electrical drives, and a variety of safety and driver assistance systems that will advance automated driving. In addition, the new site provides Bosch with laboratory and office space to co-locate certain associates, some of whom currently work in different leased facilities in southeast Michigan, thereby fostering more innovation and greater collaboration. Expansion also serves as a sustainability technology showcase The expanded site will produce green technology as well as showcase it. The site will include several energy-efficient technologies, including high-efficiency lighting system; photovoltaic solar array; a Bosch energy storage system; high-volume, low-speed fans; and a direct current (DC) microgrid. The DC microgrid enables more effective use of locally generated energy in buildings and allows for emergency operation of lighting and ventilation from solar energy in case of a power outage, a feature not available with typical solar installations. Bosch gives back to community In union with the companys commitment to local communities, the Bosch Community Fund recently awarded nearly $160,000 in grants to six community and educational programs in Plymouth.
