The competition spurs innovative approaches for communities to decrease their per-capita energy usage; highlight best practices for communities by working with utilities, businesses and local governments to create and implement inventive plans for sustained energy efficiency; and educate the public and engage students in energy efficiency issues including methods, benefits and the environmental costs of the full fuel cycle. Farmington YMCA: A $13,390 grant underwrites the robotics and makerspace programming at YMCA Camp Riley, a nine-week summer camp providing academic and social/emotional instruction for at-risk Farmington Public Schools elementary students. Friends of the Park: This $10,000 grant benefits the Farmington Hills community by providing for the purchase of interpretive signage for an outdoor education trail at Heritage Park. This signage educates community members about environmental stewardship, restoration efforts, watershed features, and invasive and native plants. Farmington Community Library: This $6,958 grant aids in the purchase of activity kits for the librarys interactive STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and math) programs. The new materials provide activities for both drop-in and scheduled programming for children in the community. The grant also supports the purchase of technology-based adaptive tools that allows those with special needs to make a connection with technology. Peace, Love & Planet (PLP): A $5,300 grant supports the continuation of PLPs sixth-grade recycling field trips. As a Bosch Community Fund grant recipient since 2014, PLP has sent more than 1,700 Farmington Public School sixth-graders on educational field trips that enhance understanding about materials, what can be recycled, how they are processed, and why recycling is imperative for environmental protection.
