- Bosch’s Linear Force Solenoid (LFS) enables transmission manufacturers to address key factors impacting efficiency - LFS is designed to allow for integration in a small space, while reducing leakage and part count FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Bosch has received the 2016 Automotive News PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contributions to Excellence) Award for its innovative Linear Force Solenoid (LFS) technology, which enables transmission manufacturers to develop more efficient, high-speed transmissions. The LFS addresses key variables including space, weight, part count, leakage, cost, robustness, accuracy and control flexibility. Ultimately, drivers are the key beneficiary of this simple, yet powerful technology from Bosch. The Linear Force Solenoid enables higher-speed transmissions that are more powerful, yet smaller, providing drivers with faster acceleration without sacrificing efficiency. Mike Mansuetti, president, Robert Bosch LLC, said, “We are honored to receive this prestigious award, not only for its representation of innovation and technological advancement, but also because it is an award that recognizes Bosch’s commitment to excellence and efficiency.” The future holds high standards for fuel economy. Increasing the number of speeds in an automatic transmission is one way to meet those expectations. However, this strategy can increase weight and space requirements, as well as leakage within the hydraulic circuit, which reduces transmission efficiency. To minimize the undesirable effects of increased automatic transmission speeds and improve robustness and control flexibility, Bosch developed its exceptionally precise LFS for high-functional integration in a small space while reducing weight, part count and leakage within the hydraulic circuit. The Automotive News PACE Awards have celebrated superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance among automotive suppliers for over 20 years. First introduced to the industry in 1995, this prestigious award is globally recognized as the industry benchmark for innovation. Bosch has been the recipient of several Automotive News PACE Awards, including the 2014 award for its laser-drilling technology for spray enhancements in gasoline direct injection, and back-to-back awards in 2010 and 2011 for its innovative collaboration with Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. and its P2 Parallel Full Hybrid System, respectively. Bosch also was an Automotive News PACE Award finalist in 2014 for its open source based infotainment system solution, in 2011 for its windshield wiper direct drive system and in 2010 for both its Long-Range Radar and Vehicle Stability System. The 2016 Automotive News PACE Awards were presented on April 11, 2016, at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit.
