This grant will fund new materials and equipment for sixth-grade science classrooms to instruct and motivate students to gain interest in STEM subjects. The new material and equipment include microscopes, experimental supplies and resources, classroom carts, and chemical cabinets. In addition, the grant supports field-specific training opportunities for students. “We are extremely pleased that the Bosch Community Fund has provided support to purchase science equipment and materials,” said Janice Donald, principal of Faulk Elementary School. “The equipment is key to providing our students with the tools and knowledge needed to further explore their interest in STEM subjects.” Arkansas State University Mid-South: This $15,000 grant supports Arkansas State University (ASU) Mid-South’s Secondary Technical Center for various STEM communication plans that will be used for recruiting and outreach programs. ASU Mid-South Secondary Technical Center has established programs that work to identify students with STEM interests and then connects them to corresponding opportunities. This grant allows ASU Mid-South Secondary Technical Center to reach out to parents, teachers and counselors in an effort to increase students’ understanding and interest in STEM professions. This grant also supports video communications, which include real-world examples of successful employees whose stories represent paths similar to the West Memphis student population.
