Stuttgart – Just in time for the dark season, when break-ins are known to increase1, Bosch Smart Home is introducing its new smart outdoor siren that is complementing the existing alarm system, which has so far been operating primarily indoors. With the siren’s clearly visible and audible deterrent, the smart home is now secured from the outside with an effective and fully comprehensive burglary protection. Furthermore, the smart outdoor siren fits seamlessly into the Bosch Smart Home security portfolio and makes the smart home even safer.

Security through deterrence

According to the Initiative for Active Burglary Protection, 80 per cent of burglaries are acts of opportunity and occur in homes without visible or existing burglary protection. To prevent burglary, Bosch Smart Home already offers an effective presence simulation that makes the home unappealing to burglars. Visibly mounted on the house wall, the outdoor siren serves as an additional deterrent and discourages potential burglars from breaking in.

Reliable alarm – visible and audible

In homes that are not equipped with an alarm system, burglaries often remain undetected for a long time, especially when occupants are at work or on vacation. To avoid burglars from entering a home undisturbed, the Bosch Smart Home outdoor siren sounds an effective alarm and thus wards off uninvited guests at an early stage. If a motion detector or a door/window contact detects an attempted break-in whilst the alarm system is activated, the outdoor siren wails with a volume up to 100dB – which is comparable to the volume level in a discotheque – and flashes powerful red LEDs that are clearly visible from every angle. The alarm not only warns neighbours: residents who are away from home are being notified immediately by a push message in the Bosch Smart Home App. This enables them to assess the situation with the aid of live images transmitted by the Bosch Smart Home Cameras, and to alert the authorities immediately. The burglary can be prevented before major damage occurs or valuable items are stolen.

In addition, the outdoor siren protects itself against attempted sabotage. Thanks to its two-way tamper protection, residents of the smart home receive an immediate notification via the Bosch Smart Home App as soon as the outdoor siren is illegally removed from the wall. When the alarm system is activated, the attempted sabotage triggers the siren, too.

Flexible usage – also as an extension of a classic wired alarm system

The smart outdoor siren can be installed and integrated into the Bosch Smart Home system as easily as any other Bosch Smart Home device. As an alternative to the solar panel, it can also be supplied with 230 V alternating voltage or with a direct voltage between 5 and 28 V. In the event of a power failure the siren reliably sounds the alarm, thanks to the additionally integrated backup battery.

Furthermore, classic wired alarm systems can be enhanced and made smart with the Bosch Smart Home outdoor siren. For this purpose, the smart outdoor siren is equipped with additional cable ports (alarm input and output, as well as tamper output) that can be connected to the conventional wired alarm system. The Bosch Smart Home outdoor siren not only replaces conventional alarm sirens with an attractive and modern design, but also augments the conventional alarm in the event of a break-in by sending a push message in the Bosch Smart Home App. Residents are informed promptly and can take immediate action, even if no one is at home.
