Bosch is expanding its 18 volt system for the garden and, with the UniversalChain 18, is introducing a chainsaw to this volt class for the first time. The tool is particularly compact so users can work with the UniversalChain 18 in a controlled manner and in any position, and can use it comfortably for a variety of sawing tasks in the garden. It is typically used for pruning fruit trees and cutting thicker timber or branches for firewood. The UniversalChain 18 can cut materials with a diameter of up to 135 millimeters; cuts between 70 and 130 millimeters are common. With a weight of only 3 kilograms, the cordless chainsaw also offers the best power-to-weight ratio in its class.

Controlled cutting thanks to the innovative recoil protection

Thanks to its compact design and features, the UniversalChain 18 is also suitable for people who have limited experience of chainsaws. Its recoil protection helps users to make every cut, such as undercuts, in a controlled manner: The protective guard at the tip of the blade reduces vibrations and makes clean cuts easier, which promote the healthy growth of wood. The way in which the severed branch falls can also be controlled more accurately and other branches will not be damaged accidentally. The UniversalChain 18 is also comfortable and easy to handle thanks to its integrated SDS system, which enables the saw chain and bar to be fitted in just a few hand movements and without the use of tools, and its automatic chain lubrication. The cordless chainsaw also has an ergonomic handle with Softgrip and an additional handle with a hand guard. During all sawing operations, the user can see the charging state of the battery on an easily visible display on the tool.

Optimum power and maximum runtime thanks to the “Syneon Chip”

On just one battery charge, the UniversalChain 18 can manage up to 40 cuts in soft wood with a diameter of 100 millimeters, so it is particularly efficient. This is made possible by the optimum coordination of key components such as the motor and the gearbox, combined with an intelligent electronic system, the “Syneon Chip“. This gives customers optimum power and maximum runtime at all times for every task. What’s more, the cordless chainsaw is powerful right up to the last cut: It holds its full power until the battery is empty.

A system for combining tools: “Power for All“ from Bosch

The UniversalChain 18 is part of the “Power for All” battery system which comprises DIY and garden tools. 21 different power tools, from grass trimmers to

rotary hammers, can currently be operated using the same 18 volt lithium-ion battery. This enables do-it-yourselfers to do without batteries and chargers that they do not need, and they can save money at the same time. A “Power for All” logo on the packaging indicates which tools belong to the system.

The UniversalChain 18 cordless chainsaw will be available from April 2018 onwards. The prices listed are recommended retail prices including VAT. Subject to change.
