Leinfelden – 1,200 tons of steel, 7,700 cubic meters of concrete, 4,100 square meters of glass facade, 50 kilometers of laid data cables: Bosch Power Tools has opened a new office building at its headquarters in Leinfelden. It comprises more than 14,000 square meters of office space over six floors, as well as an underground parking garage. This new building will provide space for around 600 employees, who so far had been working in other buildings. This is why Bosch Power Tools invests 35 million euros. “Our goal is, to support the agile transformation at Bosch Power Tools with the new office building in the best possible way. Through ‘Inspiring Working Conditions’, we are creating a working environment that enables our cross-functional teams to work flexibly using agile methods,” explains Henk Becker, Managing Director of the Robert Bosch Power Tools GmbH, at the opening event. Roland Klenk, Mayor of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, added: “Bosch Power Tools is a valuable employer for our city and region. So, we are delighted to see this commitment to the Leinfelden location.”

At an employee event, more than 4000 associates and their families took the opportunity to explore the new building. What makes the building special is that it was designed from the inside out – based on the employees’ wishes and needs. Around 450 future building users were asked about their working methods, afterwards the findings were analyzed. For instance, these user needs resulted in around 40 percent of the total space being designed for teamwork – more than twice as much as before. Associates will now have communication zones, meeting rooms and project rooms at their disposal. There are also workshops where product innovations can be tested. This is how the new workplaces support agile working methods.

Ecological considerations were also taken into account with the construction of this new building. For example, the sanitary facilities use rainwater. The LED lighting is controlled by occupancy and movement sensors depending on employees being present and the availability of natural light.

The Leinfelden location is the headquarters of the Bosch Power Tools division. It is home to development, sales, marketing and administration, as well as a part of production. Large Bosch hammers for professionals are manufactured in Leinfelden as well as further power tools parts. A total of approximately 1,700 employees work at the location.
