Karlsruhe – Adding a new series of alternators to its range of aftermarket products, Bosch supports the trend towards increasingly compact and lightweight vehicle components. As of 2018, the aftermarket range is complemented by high-performance alternators of different performance categories reaching from 1.5 to three kilowatts. “Expanding the range by a new product line constitutes the enduring continuation of the Bosch endeavor aiming at providing the aftermarket with access to latest technology,” Thilo Gleisberg, head of the starters and alternators business unit, said.

Compact and powerful

Thanks to its particularly high power density, the new alternator can also be installed into engine compartments with limited space. It features a diameter of just 134 to 144 millimeters – depending on the version – and covers the power segment reaching from 130 to 250 amperes. The new product line copes with engine compartment temperatures of up to 120 degrees Celsius.

Optimized in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions

Thanks to a special flat pack winding technique, these alternators feature a remarkable power density. In addition, this alternator series also features a high efficiency complying with the high level of other Bosch alternators already available. Using optional high-efficiency diodes (HED) or active rectification (SAR), the efficiency can be increased to up to 80 percent. This results in a reduced mechanical force required by the alternator to generate enough energy to supply the vehicle’s electrical consumers. Featuring an increased efficiency and a weight reduced by ten percent, these alternators contribute to improved fuel consumption and lowered CO2 emissions.

Extremely low noise level

A reduced noise level inside the vehicle is of particular importance, especially at premium vehicles. Compared to previous generations, the new alternators have been optimized in this regard as well. Even the magnetic noise was reduced significantly – especially in case the engine runs at low speeds, for instance when idling. Thanks to further development of the alternator cooling fan, the aerodynamic noise at high engine speeds has almost been halved as well.

Comprehensive aftermarket range of starters and alternators

Bosch offers workshops a comprehensive range of new starters and alternators for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. They are subject to functional and quality tests complying with the same standards as those applied for original equipment parts. This results in high-quality products standing out for their high reliability and long service lives – even under adverse environmental conditions. As a more cost-effective alternative for value-based repairs, the Bosch range for workshops also includes remanufactured Bosch eXchange starters and alternators.

The Automotive Aftermarket division (AA) provides the aftermarket and repair shops worldwide with modern diagnostic and repair-shop equipment and a wide range of spare parts – from new and exchange parts to repair solutions – for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Its product portfolio includes products made as Bosch original equipment, as well as aftermarket-specific products and services developed and manufactured in-house. About 13,000 associates in more than 150 countries, as well as a global logistics network, ensure that spare parts reach customers quickly and on time. AA supplies testing and repair-shop technology, diagnostic software, service training courses, and information services. In addition, the division is responsible for the “Bosch Service” repair-shop franchise, one of the world’s largest independent chains of repair shops, with some 15,000 workshops, and more than 1,000 “AutoCrew” partners.
