press release

Munich – Bosch Security Systems will present OMNEO – a new standards-based media networking architecture and the first of its kind on the market.

Supporting full interoperability and ease of use, this new architecture provides a common set of tools with which media devices from diverse manufacturers can communicate harmoniously over standard digital networks. The OMNEO architecture shares both program content and system control in order to provide users with a powerful, integrated multi-vendor solution. Interoperability can be achieved for media transport, control data or both.

“With OMNEO we are enabling our customers to enjoy fully standardized media networks in which not only Bosch equipment, but also products from various other manufacturers interoperate smoothly”, says Ethan Wetzell, Platform Strategist at Bosch Security Systems. “We are bringing together Bosch solutions with emerging public standards, such as AVB (Audio Video Bridging), and provide a standard Ethernet infrastructure for all kinds and sizes of applications.”

It is a blend of multiple elements that makes OMNEO unique in the market. To begin with, the media transport and powerful system control can be used with off-the-shelf Ethernet networking hardware and components. This is backed by the network architecture’s suitability and scalability for virtually every type and size of professional media network, in combination with its interoperability options. “We believe that promoting interoperability and open standards will make it even easier for system designers and operators to use and benefit from the industry-leading solutions that Bosch, Electro-Voice, Dynacord, and RTS provide”, explains Wetzell.
OMNEO’s program transport component is the result of a partnership between Bosch and Audinate Pty Australia. It consists of two key technologies – a media transport component called ‘Dante’ provided by Audinate and a system control component named ‘OCA’, for Open Control Architecture, developed by Bosch Security Systems in cooperation with the OCA Alliance. Together they allow high-quality transport of audio and video as well as the remote control of all devices via standard Ethernet.
